1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ 40
I bought this car September 2009 when I was a senior in high school. Brought it with me out east hoping I'd wheel it on the weekends and work on it in my spare time. Turns out I don't have spare time and I haven't wheeled it in three years (actually have only been once). I see myself in a city after college and so I think it's time to sell.
A bit of history on the car: I bought it from a guy in Wisconsin who put some serious time. love and money into the truck. He spent four years taking everything down to the frame and building it up to be a very capable. dependable machine. I then took it and stripped it down to the bare metal (through layers of seafoam green. primer. red. primer. green. primer. ) and had a professional paint job done. We also beat out all the dents and covered some of the pounded out areas with diamondplate. The diamondplate has been welded and then sealed (no rivets/screws) so hopefully no water has gotten between it and the body behind it if you ever wanted to remove it. I know a lot of people are weary of buying trucks with DP. but this wasn't just a screw-on-DP job. So between me and the previous owner. this truck was taken from dented. rusty. and stock to what it is now. It's taken $18. 00+ and a lot of time. This car is very dependable. I just drove 5 hours to New York City and back. going 65 the entire way. Been garaged for every winter. barely has seen salt and snow.

Here is everything I can think of that is not ideal with the car. I realize buying a car off e Bay requires a lot of trust in the seller on the part of the buyer. so I hope to be as honest as possible here:
When I installed the Cobeaus to the cage. I had to take out the stock gas tank. I had plans to fabricate my own tank. but never had time. Right now. all that's there is a Geo Metro 10 gallon tank under the truck. I've heard S-10 tanks work well under the bed. but I just never got around to installing one. I'll include two 5-gal jerry cans with the sale. It's a bit of a pain to have a 10-gal tank. but whatever. Also. the gas guage is less than reliable with the different tank. but empty is empty. so it's got that going for it.
Just replaced the head gasket. nothing leaks up front. Just a few drops/night from the transfer case.
One of the brackets to hold the windshield up has pulled out from the dash that's a rather quick weld job. though.
I've had to add those ugly fenders and mudflaps because one cop near me has decided to pull me over every time he sees me. It's all very easily removable.
Only heater's low setting works
windshield wipers only work on constant (otherwise fuse blows)
BIKE RACK NOT INCLUDED
I do have a 10" drop hitch that you can have if you want it as well
Speedo and horn broken as well. less than 300 miles on it since the speedo broke. though.
There is a periodic whir from 1500 to 2500 rpm. although only when it's cold out
Slight looseness in the drivetrain. You only hear it when switching from fwd to reverse.
BUYER RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL SHIPPING COSTS. ITEM SOLD AS IS.
That's it for now! I'm sure I'm missing other weird idiosyncratic things that I've become accustomed to. but that's going to happen with a 40 year old car. Please feel free to email with more questions/concerns.
