1979 Ferrari 308 GTS. 58k miles

No Reserve! Low initial bid!

The last year of the carbureted 308's!  This car was bought in Kansas city from the paintless dent repair pioneer. George Venture.   When I bought the car from George I had the choice of the 1979 carbureted or a 1984 quad valve.   I had been longing for a Ferrari for years at this point and was narrowing down my choices.   When I drive the 79 I fell in love with the rawness of the feeling and sound of the Webber's opening up.   Sure the 84 quad valve was faster and had more power. but it just lacked the feeling and emotion of the 79.   In my opinion the 79 was the end of the era of the raw Ferraris dating back to the old road racing cars.

I've had the car 7 years now.   Just before I bought it with 47k on it the timing belt had been done. along with some other maintenance items (including the MSD ignition upgrade so common on these models).   The car was repainted before I bought it. and I'm not sure when. the previous owner was uncertain as well.   I do not have additional details on the paint job. but I have included numerous pictures to help show its quality.   Since that time I've had to readjust the points a few times (common). as well as replacing the fuel pump and carb fuel lines with the recommended replacement model.

The targa top seals quite well compared to most 308s of this age.   This targa top does have the currently unavailable seals on the sides (please see pictures).

Can it be driven now?  Sure.   See the video below.    The car sits in storage most of the time.   It sees a crank up. warm up and drive around the block every few weeks to make sure everything's ok.   Beyond that it occasionally sees a trip to dinner when the weather is nice. or the occasional local car show.   A little over 2 years ago. it saw a 300 mile round trip to Mobile. AL for a Ferrari gathering.   The main reason it is not roadworthy at the moment are the tires.   They are severely dated.   In theory. you could buy it and pick it up and drive it home. however the tires are very questionable. they have dry rotting cracks and flat spots.     I would recommend putting it on a trailer for any long trip to its new residence.

Why am I selling? I'm going into business for myself and need start up money.   I'm liquidating some of my assets to fund my project and sadly the Ferrari is a casualty of the situation.   When I'm back on my feet I will be acquiring another.

Current issues:

·         The windows are not currently working. I'm uncertain if it's the fuse. relay. switch. or grease hardening up on the cable from non use (again. a common 308 issue).   Both windows were functioning last summer before it was put up for the fall and winter.

·         The emergency break has been disconnected. all parts are present.

·         The car has had test pipes put on. removing the catalytic converters (this is a common 308 mod due to the fire hazard the cat's presented).   This will be an issue for some people with emissions regulations in their areas.

·         The front upper fender before the hood has some minor dents from someone pushing it. a little PDR should take care of it.   I have included numerous shots of that area to attempt to show the depth of the issue. please look at them before bidding.

·         The top of the flying buttress (engine cover. near the hinge) has broken paint (see picture).

·         There are some oil leaks.   There is one near the oil pan. and another around the cam shaft seal by the distributor.

·         One of the targa top releases has a broken bushing on the release latch. which I've covered in tape (see pictures).

·         While I have been cranking it and attending to it when it when I can. it will likely need servicing of some type.

Before bidding. please keep in mind this is a 35 year old car. and it has seen 58k miles. It will have some 35 year old car issues.   I have done my best to detail all the issues I know about. as well as giving a comprehensive 90 picture listing of details of the body and interior.   There is no warranty expressed or implied with the car.    The car is sold as is.

Payment:  At the completion of the auction. the winning bidder will be responsible for sending a good faith $500 non refundable deposit within 60 hours of the close of the auction. or to have contacted me and made firm arrangements to complete the transaction.   Completion of the transaction must be cash. certified cashier's check on a national chain with a verifiable value. or wire transfer.   If paying with certified check. the title will be held until the checks funds are released.   At that point I will priority overnight the title to you.

Transportation:  The winning bidder is responsible for securing his own transport for the vehicle.   As I said it is driveable. however it is not recommended.   You should trailer this vehicle.   That said I do have an associate with a low boy dovetail trailer who is an experienced hotshot driver who has moved many lowered high performance vehicles for me.   He is willing to offer quotes for pickup and transport in the southeast.   Beyond that I will do my best to help accommodate transportation but I cannot provide it.

The initial bid represents the lowest possible price we're willing to list at and it will sell in this auction. even if there is only 1 bid!  The car is located in Laurel. MS 39443.   Please email me directly at circleAdesign@gmail. com and I will reply faster than I can through ebay's message system.
