AMC Rambler Ambassador DPL 1966. 327 4 barrel Shift command on the floor. White with black vinyl top. Red and black houndstooth upholstery w original pillows! Original floor mats as well.

My dad found this car 8 years ago and bought it based on it's amazing original condition. NEVER ANY RUST except under windsheild wiper motor (carefully repaired).

We found after owning the car a bit that the engine was pretty tired. so like all of these projects start we decided to pull the engine and transmission and have them rebuilt.

We found an old timer at a great machine shop familiar with these engines and he went to town with new pistons. rings. bearings. cam. etc and also did the heads with hardened seats. My dad made everything immaculate and powder coated the valve covers valley pan and intake manifold and air cleaner. 3400. 00 was spent on the engine alone. He also touched up the engine compartment and I took care of the only place there was ever any rust on this car-the famous under the wiper motor water "trough". I removed the bad metal and carefully tig welded in patches. We then built up the "trough" with POR 15 putty so water would not get trapped there anymore. The transmission was also completely rebuilt at this time and we also did suspension and strut rod bushings idler and pitman arms and installed a pair of stainless sleeved disc brake calipers. New rear brakes oil seals and rear differential into torque tube seal were also installed. It also got 4 new shocks. My dad also had a dual exhaust system built but I am not impressed with the work and I feel it is a bit loud for one of these cars. In all over $8000. 00 was spent on the mechanical restoration of this car and lots of hours. I have all receipts

My dad became ill before the car was "finished" and dialed in. It has been driven 2-300 miles. Even though I love the car and my dad and I have some good times working on it he has asked me to go ahead and sell it. I think another Ambassador or Rambler lover could finish her up and have a great car to enjoy and show for a long time.

The things that this car needs to be in show condition are:

The vinyl top needs to be redone. The car sat under another car on a lift when we took her to transmission shop for adjustments after getting her back on the road. The car above leaked trans fluid on the roof and it killed it over time despite my best efforts to clean it.

The seats need to be recovered. We bought the correct original hounds tooth fabric and vinyl from SMS. There is enough material to do all of the seats. the door panels and the throw pillows. This material cost $1000. 00. It is pictured. The dash pad is perfect and the dash chrome etc is all very nice. I have the correct Ambassador horn ring in excellent condition.

It has two dings that could be taken care of by paintless dent company. one on rear pass quarter and one on pass door.

The rear bumper has a tweak in it.

The paint is presentable and could go for some time but with the above items addressed and a nice paint job this car would be near perfect.

If you like these old Ambassadors this car is a great bargain the reserve is a bit less than we have invested in the mechanical restoration. So you are getting a rust free Ambassador and a bunch of labor for better than free. You could not begin to restore a car with issues for this money.

The car is being re-listed due to the final two previous bidders being scammers. Do not bid with zero feedback without getting in contact with me first. I will know if you are an AMC/Rambler guy.
