1967 Pontiac GTO

History

The Pontiac GTO is an American automobile built by Pontiac Division of General Motors from 1964 to 1974. It was a muscle car classic of the 1960 s and 1970 s.

In early 1963. General Motors' management issued a ban on involvement in auto racing. At the time. Pontiac's advertising and marketing approach was heavily based on performance. and racing was an important component of that strategy. With GM's ban on factory-sponsored racing. Pontiac's young and visionary management turned its attention to emphasizing street performance. The GTO was basically a violation of GM policy. but since the GTO was an option package and not standard equipment. it fell into a loophole in the policy.

The GTO underwent a few styling changes in 1967. The louver-covered tail lights were replaced with eight tail lights. four on each side. The GTO emblems located on the rear part of the fenders were moved to the chrome rocker panels. Also the grill was changed from a purely split grill. to one that shared some chrome.

The previous owner of this gorgeous “Goat” was from Macomb. Michigan. and owned the car since 1991. He had it professionally restored in 2000. It has just 75. xx original miles and only 500 miles have been put on the car since its restoration. It has always been garage kept and covered when not in use.
