Cash sale preferred. but I might be interested in a 'deal' for a classic vehicle - no major projects though please.
This Buggy was built back in 1979 by the then secretary of the Cleveland Beach Buggy Club. It was the 5th VW beach-buggy that he had built. so I can ensure you that this was build to the highest of standards.
Here's the story; In 1978 the chap wanted to build a show Buggy so bought a one keeper 1967 Beetle from its original owner. stripped off the body and built the Buggy. At the time he also fully stripped a 1600cc ‘VW type 3' engine and rebuilt it (replaced pistons. cylinders. bearings. everything!!!).
A year later. in 1979. he was offered a chassis from a car which had only been on the road a year (a 1978 Beetle). swapped chassis' and informed DVLA of the change and a replacement 1967 V5 registration document was issued. Result - a brand new fully legal beach-buggy. V5 registration date of 1967 (rules were different in those days!) and having a new chassis with only 1 year of road use since it came out of the VW factory. All wheel bearings. suspension linkages having had only 1 year of road use.
The car is correctly registered as a 1967 VW Convertible historical vehicle (with only one previous owner).
Since then it has only been driven for a few weeks during the summer of 1979. then again for a few weeks in the summer of 1996. and only in dry weather on dry roads – previously never been wet or dirty (until I bought it last year!).
Total miles driven = 3. 81
It was then stored in a heated & carpeted garage for the next 27 years. but spent the last 8 year outside under heavy cover.
I bought it last year and have spent some time and money having it re-commissioned and MOT'ed. However. although this drives great. is very. very fast and absolutely loads of fun to drive. it is just not for me (I am too old and a bit more conservative!) so I am now offering it for sale.

Known problems and things for buyers to be aware of. minor but best to be honest and aware upfront to avoid disappointment:
The weather gear is mostly still in excellent condition but some of the stitching has deteriorated in places. so the stitching will need repair and/or some zips may need replacing. An easy job if your handy. or dead simple and cheap for a trimmer - or just use as it. I have. Passenger seat. outside edge of upholstery at the base a few centimetres wide. has been eaten by a mouse (or a family of mice) that has been living in the car over winter. Rear seat belts nibbled by the (same?) mouse so will need replacing or just remove them as they are not a legal requirement (mounts will obviously still be there anyway. so easily changed/replaced as/if required). Drivers seat belt has now started to ‘stick' and needs to be pulled out gently to stretch. so needs some attention. Bits of surface rust on the wheels. exhausts. one headlight bezel and one rear light cover due to standing over time. Very. very minor and be assured. there are absolutely no rot issues on this car AT ALL. it is absolutely as solid as a rock and the bodytub has no marks or blemishes. The rear seats need cleaning. but are dry and not torn and will come up well. You might have noticed on some pics that the aluminium engine flexi's and a breather pipe are missing. Also. the perspex engine cover is not fitted. This is because I have been working on the car and hadn't got around to refitting them prior to pics being taken (they are all there though).
Please note that the car is not perfect or a show car. just yet. but certainly could be with very little work and tlc. It is however. already an excellent. well put together. useable. fun car for someone this enjoy this spring/summer.
So……………………there you have it – a very cool and low mileage Volksrod Buggy in excellent condition. tax exempt. and with an MOT until Jan 2015. Grab a bargain before the prices rise in the spring.
I would like a Paypal deposit of £200 immediately on completion of the auction. with the balance paid and the Buggy collected within a further 7 days. The pick up date can be negotiable with prior arrangement.
If you're still awake. thanks for your time.
Cheers. br>
Kevin
ps - all pics were taken today except for the two showing the hood and side screens (can't find one showing the tonneau but you will have seen them on early British sports cars?)
