1936 Chevrolet Standard Coupe Street Rat Hot Rod for sale
Current customer rating:
I have a 1936 Chevrolet standard coupe street rod for sale. I have owned this car for 30 years and it has been in my family since 1960. It has always been stored indoors and there has never been any rust or cancer. It is all steel. The doors have been converted to suicide swing with safety pins and the wood in the doors has all been replaced with steel. The engine is a 350 and the transmission is a turbo 400 with a 3000 stall converter. the gear in the rear end is 3:43 so it also goes good down the highway. It has a dropped axle front suspension with 49-54 Chevy passenger car spindles and 70's Camaro disc brakes. The rear is a ladder bar coil over setup.
The rear coil overs have 300 pound springs in them to keep the fenders from rubbing the tires. therefore it does not ride like a Cadillac. This car used to be a 5 window coupe and the quarter windows have been filled. the cowl has also been filled. In essence. the hood has been shaved. it has 15 inch Weld Rodlite wheels. 10's and 7's. There is a full array of Auto Meter Ultra Lite gauges and a Hurst Lightning Rod shifter. The car is driveable as it sits but there are no windshield wipers. headlights or turn signals. There are also no windows in the doors yet. The car is titled in California and it is not registered or insured so no test drives. The following parts are also on the car.
- Edelbrock Performer RPM Cam
- Over the fenderwell headers
- Pete Jackson gear drive
- Edelbrock 600 cfm carbs
- Edelbrock Tunnel ram
- Chrome cowl vent
- Derale extra capacity transmission pan with cooling fins
- external firewall mounted transmission filter
- 1934 ford door handles
- Frame rail mounted transmission cooler
- 1990 Blazer seat
- Modified Monte Carlo radiator
The gauges are:
- Fuel level
- Water Temperature
- Oil Pressure
- Oil Temperature
- Volts
- Vaccum
- Trans Temperature
- Amperes
- Speedometer
- Tachometer
I also have the original style right side tail light and lens which is included in the sale as well as a B&M Quicksilver shifter. I also have the original inside garnish mouldings for the door windows that do fit into place in the newly built steel structure.
The wiring is there and working for the other tail light and headlights.
It had stock headlights working in the past but I was going to switch to a 32 Ford 10" stainless light.
I do not have the stock or any other headlights to go with it.
The left tail light and gauge lights do work.
The fuel gauge was working but has recently stopped.
Don't know why.
All the other gauges work except the speedometer.
There is no cable. A 70's Camaro cable should fit right in.
To answer some questions I have had. the car goes down the highway very well.
It's last trip was 500 miles plus and it got 11 mpg even with the twin 600 carbs it has.
The car has not been tubbed.
I added a picture of the inside of the trunk to the Facebook page below.
It has a car cover included with it.
The engine. transmission and all other parts on the drivetrain have about 5-6 thousand miles on them since the car became roadworthy in 1998.
Except the rear end which came from a 1992 s-10 truck with 80. 00 miles on it.
The glovebox door was signed by Paul Le Mat who played John Milner in the movie American Graffiti in 2000.
The skull on top of the dash has a light in it and I was going to hook it up to a module so it would function as a shift light.
The two holes on either side of the Ammeter gauge in the dash were going to be for warning lights for the suicide door safety pins.
The lights are in the box in the trunk and just need to be installed and hooked up to the safety pins. They would be a visual warning to engage the safety pins before driving the car.
The Ammeter does not match the rest of the gauges because at the time they did not make one that matched.
I don't know if they do now or not.
I do not have the window mechanisms.
It will need to be a custom setup because the door structures are completely custom built from steel.
The car originally had wooden structured doors which would rot and sag.
I was going to buy a complete power window kit with all the parts and make it fit.
The hole in the passenger side floor board is where the stock battery used to go.
I just never got around to making a cover plate for it yet.
Please feel free to ask any questions you might have.
I can tell you anything you want to know about this car as I am the one who built it from stock.
I am happy to answer your questions.
I want the buyer to be pleased with their purchase.
I also forgot to mention that there is no trunk handle or latch on the car.
The weight of the trunk lid holds it down well though so it has not been a pressing issue.
This car has been a labor of love for 30 years and I don't want to sell it. I have to in order to put myself through school. The price is $12. 00. I am not interested in any trades. I don't have time for tire kickers so please. serious buyers only.

The car is being advertised for sale in several online locations and due to overwhelming interest in the car. I reserve the right to end this auction early if it is sold locally or on a different site.
I keep getting asked what my "bottom dollar" is and the answer is $12. 00.
I have already lowered the price from $15. 00 and I am not willing to sell it for less than $12. 00.
The car is being sold "as is" "where is" with no warranty expressed or implied.
Buyer makes all shipping arrangements if necessary and pays all costs associated with it.
Buyer pays a $500 deposit via Paypal within 24 hours of auctions end and full balance of winning bid is due within 7 days of auctions end.
Thank you.
