You are looking at one of the finest FJ40's on eBay. Featured in October 2005 4 Wheel Drive Magazine. I have the article and can email it to those bidding.  This FJ originated out of California and has zero rust on the body and frame. The paint is also very nice and exceeds the quality of what I have seen on most rigs.  I have babied this special vehicle from day one using only Royal Purple fluids in the engine. transmission. transfer case. and axles. The oil has been changed twice a year with only about 750 miles per year put on the vehicle. I installed a Moroso 3-Qt Oil Accumulator so that I would never have to hard start the engine. especially after it may have been sitting for a couple of weeks or more during the winter. The oil accumulator is also very handy for large inclines/declines to keep enough oil flowing to the engine at all times.

This was my family's summer cruiser and has never been off-road. In fact. it has never seen a drop of rain since i have owned the cruiser.  It must have about 10 layers of the best synthetic wax money can buy applied to the body. The underside is as clean as the top side.  I was religous about maintaining the condition of this FJ40. This is the kind of vehicle that most folks dream of because it is top-notch and was never abused. Safety was also a major factor in my purchase of this FJ. You will see from the pictures that this cruiser does not have one of those cheap "just for looks" roll cage. this is the real deal with gussets and all. It also has very nice 4-point seat belts in the front and rear of the vehicle. Because my most precious cargo was onboard. that was a necessity for me.

The body on this vehicle is very straight as is the frame. As mentioned before the paint is really high quality for an off-road vehicle(see the pics). The custom made sidesteps(left and right) also serve as air tanks for the tires and the air lockers in the front and rear. The air pump is driven by the engine. The front and rear bumpers are also custom made and house a winch on the front and a tire carrier on the rear. These are very well made and will hold up to about anything. The winch is a Warn 9500HS with Synthetic Rope for getting you out of tough spots. The rear axle is a Dana 60 with drum brakes and the front axle is a Dana 44 for disc brakes. Both axles have 4. 10 gears. ARB Air Lockers. and Rock Rings. The engine is a Tuned 2006 LQ9 out of a 2500HD truck with a LS7(Corvette Z06) Cam and Springs. The engine. harness. computer. and upgraded Z06 cam package was all installed and sold by Turnkey Engines of Reno Nevada. The engine is estimated to produce about 375HP and had 34K miles on the engine at the time of the install. I would dare say that it has more than 40K on it today. The engine does not burn any oil and makes no ticking or knocking sounds. This is a drive by wire setup with no actual cable to the accelerator.  The speedo is the only instrument that does not function so I do not know the mileage. I use my iPhone to track my speed. The engine and engine bay are clean enough to eat on. The engine has a very nice set of headers (not cheap ones) attached to 3" exhaust that combines into a single pipe that exists the rear. It has a very nice rumble but nothing annoying(like I like it). If you want it to roar you could change the mufflers or go dual exhaust but I never found that necessary with a 3" pipe. The engine has an extended chrome intake pipe with a K&N filter for excellent cool air at volumes. The fuel injected engine starts every time with no issues whatsoever. The starter and red top battery are both very strong and man does it have a nice sound when starting up the engine. It reminds me of how the starters on Ferrari's used to sound. All the fuel lines have just been replaced and a new MSD electronic fuel pump has been installed.  Electric fan and Aluminum Radiator.  The steering and brakes are all power assisted. The steering box has a port for a hydraulic ram and the axle rind has a mount for a RAM if you choose to use one. I had no reason to install a ram since I only used the vehicle on hard surfaces. The axle locks on the front are the top of the line Warn Premium Lockers. They are easy to turn and have no issues. The Transmission is a TH350 (15K miles when installed) and it shifts as it should with no noticeable mechanical issues. TH400 torque converter.  It does leak a little fluid around the pan but nothing a decent cast aluminum pan would not solve. Those old metal pans tend to warp a little where the bolts are tightened. The transfer case works great with no issues. It is a Toyota mini-truck transfer case with a Marlin Crawler 4. 7-to-1 ratio kit and heavy shaft. It does leak a little fluid around the output shaft. That is a cheap fix and a DIY job for sure and you can get any part for that transfer case from Marlin Crawler.  The drive shafts are both custom made and heavy duty with the rear being double cardan. The suspension is Rancho 44044 in the rear and front has S. O. R. Springs. both are stil very stiff with no noticeable sag in a spring over axle configuration. The front steeering rods are all heavy duty in a high steer configuration with a heavy duty custom made Walker Evans Racing stabilizer. The front and rear shocks are all custom made by Walker Evans Racing. They are long travel shocks with heavy duty shafts and remote fluid reservoirs. The wheels are also custom made Walker Evans Racing and are one piece 17"x8. 5" aluminum rims with simulated bead lock (I got rifd of the original bead locks for road safety reasons). The tires are brand new BF Goodrich KM2 TA's 37"x12. 5" with less than 1500 road miles. The FJ also has a roof rack that mounts to the roll bar for hauling gear and another platform rack for a cooler on top of the spare tire carrier. I do not have a spare for this vehicle. I installed an emergency brake and lighted license plate frame so it would pass VA Inspection. It has passed every year with flying colors. The vehicle does not require any pollution control as a 1969 titled vehicle. Be sure to check in your own state as it could be different where you live. The FJ does have a working CD player but it is not hooked up right now. I will also include the custom speaker enclosures that match and mount ot the roll cage. The FJ comes as pictured with no top and only half doors. All gauges function wit the exception of the speedo. All lights. wipers. heater. defrost. nbsp;etc. function as they should. Cruises down the highway at 65-70 with no problem. Current Virginia Inspection.  This really is one of those vehicles that you can just drive and enjoy. I know because I have spent hours laying under CJ's and other 4WD vehicles trying to fix the next thing that breaks. This vehicle has never had any major issue and I honestly do not expect the next owner to have any as well. This FJ was built by a professional in the Rock Crawling and Rock Racing circuits. This was his family cruiser that he used on the Sierra Mountain Trails with his family. SEE THE LINK BELOW TO THE 4WD MAGAZINE ARTICLE. The FJ has received a new paint job. power plant. and suspension upgrades since this article was published. The vehicle is used and therefore no warranty is applicable. Good luck bidding!

Here is a Flickr link with a video and some pictures of the painting. prep work and vehicle running. As mentioned in the 4WD article. this FJ received a frame-off restoration around 2005 and a nice new paint job inside and out in 2011. I guess not everybody liked the flames on the hood. Please keep in mind that the video shows the vehicle with a different set of rims and tires. I took off the 39's and beadlocks because they are not safe for anything but offroad. The new Walker Evans Racing simulated beadlocks and BF Goodrich KM2's are a good combo. no tire noise and great road manners.

Read more about the LQ9 6. 0L with Z06 Cam option at http://bdturnkeyengines. com/  . This is a monster of an engine and not cheap!

This is where the engine was acquired for this FJ40

As a reminder. the shocks are all Walker Evans Racing Remote Reservoir Shocks. You will notice some of the pictures show a standard white colored shock. Those were all upgraded when I changed the wheels and tires.
