This 1958 Buick Special Riviera Estate Wagon is a unique and luxurious 50 s cruiser and one of the nicest station wagons of the era. 1958 was a significant year for Buick with regards to the exterior styling of its vehicles–gone were the "Venti-Ports" on the front fenders of any Buick for the first time since 1948. Edward Ragsdale, who was the General Manager of Buick at the time, characterized the new-look Buicks as "dazzling." Based on the sales brochures from the '58 Buick lines, it is clear that Buick's designers took much inspiration from the aviation craze of the day. From nose to tail, the 1958 Buicks were, like many other General Motors products that year, loaded with stainless steel and chrome! The front grille in '58 had a "drawer pull" look with 160 floating chrome squares in the outer grille shell. Dual headlight also made their debut in 1958. Large stainless sweepspeare side trim on the rear quarter panels were another iconic addition to the dazzling Buick style in 1958. Even the rear chrome bumpers were the largest in the industry at the time. Needless to say, the 1958 Buick cars had quite an iconic fifties look. The Buick Special was the entry level model for Buick in 1958 but being that Buick was a luxury brand and essentially just a step below a Cadillac, even the Specials were equipped with many standard options not available to the lower level GM brands such as Chevrolet and Pontiac. Of all of the Buick Specials, the Riviera Estate Wagon was both the most expensive and the most rare with an initial price of $3,265 and with a total production of 3,420 vehicles produced. This particular Riviera Estate Wagon comes to us from a southern based collector who owned the car for over 20 years. Under the hood on this particular 58 Buick is the iconic 364 Cubic Inch "Nailhead" V 8 paired with a single 2 barrel carburetor that pushed out 250 horsepower when new. Anybody can take this fifties station wagon for a spin because the 364 Nailhead V 8 is hooked up to an automatic transmission. Being that this Buick was a luxury car in its day, it is loaded with options! With power steering, getting in and out of tight parking spots is a breeze. Power brakes simplifies bringing this large Buick Estate Wagon to a full stop. Riding on whitewall radial tires with full wheel covers, this 50 s Buick has a fantastic look and even better ride. The exterior has been beautifully refinished in its original color scheme, Seminole Red and Glacier White. The interior on this 1958 Buick Riviera Estate Wagon is stunning. The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in Red and White Vinyl, just how this car came out of the Framingham, Massachusetts factory. The door panels and steering wheel are all in wonderful condition and appear to be in their stock configuration. The dash features some painted-on pinstriping but otherwise has a nice stock look. The dash is equipped with a horizontal redliner 120 MPH speedometer, Safety-buzzer indicator window, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, amp gauge, fuel gauge, clock, and Sonomatic push button AM radio. Whether you're looking to purchase your very first classic car or you're an avid Buick collector, this 1958 Buick Special Riviera Estate Wagon would make an excellent choice. Give us a call today!
