Do you collect classic military vehicles? What we have here is a 1962 two-door Jeep ambulance as an Army staff vehicle with working emergency equipment.

This example was made in February 1962 at Kaiser Jeep's Toledo, Ohio factory. Finished in Olive or Army Green with stenciled graphics, the Jeep's paint and trim have a beautiful patina while the bodywork is straight and solid. The engine bay is very tidy, and the matching green bumpers fit tightly to the body.

Standard accessories included hand tools like pliers and screwdrivers, jacks and spark plug wrenches. Other accessories on this Jeep include three stretchers, medic light, axe, shovel and a fire extinguisher. There's also an external snorkel for fjording creeks.

This Jeep rolls on Denman tires, size 7.00-16 light truck tires. Each tire is mounted on a green steel wheel at every corner. This version rides on a 101-inch wheelbase.

Under the hood is a 134 CID Hurricane F-head four-cylinder engine, a Borg-Warner T-90 three-speed manual transmission, a Dana 18 transfer case, either the Dana 25 or Dana 27 front axle and the Dana 44 rear axle.

The front seats were narrower. Litter racks were mounted on the rear floor. An additional litter rack hung from the bows on the passenger side of the vehicle. The spare tie and fuel can were carried in a well just to the right of the passenger's seat.  The wipers are inop along with the fuel and amp/volt gauge. A droplight on a cable reel mounted behind the driver's seat provided light for the medical attendants. There are two mannequins included, too.

The MD was the first Willys jeep with a significantly restyled body, immediately recognizable by its rounded hood and fenders. It formed the basis for the civilian and commercial Jeep CJ‑5, built for three decades (1954–1983), and subsequent models, and called the first ‘round-fendered' Jeep. Although hard doors were still not available, the soft-top could be complemented with soft side panels and little hinged doors, that consisted of a thin steel frame with cloth and plastic window.

The M170 Frontline Ambulance variant of the M38A1, with a 20-inch stretched wheelbase, formed the basis for the later civilian Willys CJ‑6 Jeep. The spare tire was relocated in a special wheel well on the right interior side of the vehicle, and a larger, 20-gallon fuel tank was fitted. Capacity was six seated passengers, or three lying on litters. A total of 4,155 M170 ambulances were designed and built by Kaiser Jeep of Toledo, Ohio, from the mid-1950s to the early 1960s.
