Vehicle Details
Other Makes. This is a rare 1960 De Kalb Model REA Forward Van. Refurbished to its original livery, you will be hard pressed to find another Dekalb in this condition. Built on a Ford P 350 chassis, the van is factory stock equipped with a 223 overhead valve six cylinder engine. Unique for a van, it also has a Ford-o-matic transmission. Originally from Montana this is a very dry and solid vehicle. Steel body consistent with Sherman tank standards. Solid chassis with no rust-thru, its still painted in the red from the factory. The odometer reads 34 k miles and the speedo broke about 150 miles ago, most likely has rolled over back in day . Recent work includes: brakes, brake lines and master cylinder replaced, radiator replace, new tires, new driver side windshield, re-cored heater box, Carb rebuilt, and flex plate repaired. This van starts easily and is used on a regular basis to run Saturday morning errands. It puts smiles on faces where ever it goes.
Great candidate for movie work or museum display. This van was operated by the Railway Express Company (1917-1975), a predecessor to Federal Express and DHL, these vans were commonly found in every major US city. The cigarette billboard is an authentic reproduction of the advertising commonly found on all REA vans. All marker lighting and tailights have been replaced with NOS correct Do-Ray lamps. The van livery depicts 1961-1969 REA Express branding. Produced by Dekalb Commercial Body of Dekalb, Illinois, the company has been out of business since 1970, When was the last time you saw one, if ever! The single Black and White photo is a Dekalb promotional photo from 1960. Word of warning, this is a slow van, geared and designed for multi stop delivery service. Its geared low for blvd. driving not interstate highways. Fun to drive around town. Images
