1973 Lotus Elan Sprint dates from the final year of production for the model and was originally delivered to Sportique Motors, Ltd. of Huntington, New York. The seller acquired the car in 2015, reportedly from its original owner, and has since driven it 8k miles. Power is from a 1,558cc twin-cam inline-four linked to a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes knock-off wheels, a rebuilt differential, a modified exhaust system, a larger capacity Triumph radiator, and larger front disc brakes as well as replacement brake and clutch hydraulics, driveline roto-flex discs, and rear struts. This Elan Sprint is offered in Delaware with original black soft top, a tool roll, removed stock components, owner's literature, service manuals, purchase documents, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller's name.

The Elan Sprint superseded the S4 in 1970, and featured an upgraded engine and brakes and a stiffer rear differential carrier. Approximately 1,500 were built before the end of production in 1973. This example is finished in blue over white with gold side stripes and bumpers. Patina in the form of some fading and wear are shown around the exterior as well as chipped fiberglass on the left rear wheel arch. LED thimble lights have been fitted up front, and a telescoping radio antenna is mounted behind the cockpit.

The black soft top fits over roll-up side windows with fixed frames and has yellowed vinyl backlights. Black knock-off steel wheels wear three-eared spinners and older Stahlflex radial tires with good tread. The seller states that the brake hydraulics have been refurbished and the front calipers and rotors replaced with larger versions from an Elan Plus 2.

Black vinyl upholstery covers bolstered seats with headrests and lap restraints, while matching carpets and mats line the floors. The wood-veneer dashboard is cracking and is fitted with a Blaupunkt cassette player, and switches under the dash operate the LED thimble lights, and manual override of the engine cooling fan.

The three-spoke Colin Chapman signature steering wheel frames Smiths gauges including a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, a 140-mph speedometer, and a five-digit odometer showing 47k miles. A previously bolted-in roll bar was removed under current ownership. 

The 1,558cc inline-four features an iron block topped by an aluminum “big valve” cylinder head with dual overhead camshafts. Induction is from twin Stromberg carburetors, and output was rated at 126 horsepower with 113 lb-ft of torque when new. A tube header is fitted in place of the stock exhaust manifold, and the seller notes that the emissions crossover pipe has been removed. A larger Triumph radiator, an electric cooling fan, and a replacement alternator have also been fitted.

A four-speed manual transmission routes power through a rear differential that has been rebuilt according to the seller. Driveline roto-flex discs and the rear struts have also been replaced.

Owner's and workshop manuals are included along with a tool kit, a spare wheel, a jack, dealer paperwork showing a 1973 purchase price of $5,460, and removed stock components.
