After much speculation over this car's value, I've decided to put it up for auction with a modest reserve and let the market decide. I have decided to part with my one-of-a-kind Jaguar XJS Insignia because I am just not driving it enough. Don't let the odometer reading put you off (it's being used regularly and the mileage currently stands at around 164k miles) – this car has been maintained regardless of cost and recent preventative maintenance has been carried out to make sure it remains a valuable and usable classic well into the future. You could buy a much lower mileage XJS thinking you have got a good deal, and you would have all the work still to do. Details of the significant pieces of work are detailed below.A library of photos detailing all aspects of the car, including its extensive service history, are available on request, and you can see a comprehensive video if you search for the registration number on YouTube - a link to the photos is also there. The InsigniaThis is one rare XJS – maybe the rarest of them all. Between 1992 and 1994, Jaguar Special Vehicles Operation turned their attention away from building DS420 Limousines, to custom building special Insignia editions of the XJS and XJ40 for discerning customers who were looking for the ultimate in personalization and workmanship. The XJS already had a very high equipment level, with electric everything, air conditioning and sumptuous interiors, so when Jaguar decided that the only way of creating a desirable special edition, and the best way to employ its SVO, would be to invite their ‘Insignia' customers to choose options from the following list:- Stunning, exclusive paint colours- Soft, semi-aniline all-leather interiors, uniquely styled and trimmed in a range of special colours- A choice of natural or tinted wood veneers to complement and enhance the chosen paint and trim colours. The Insignia cars also had their own alloy wheels and a badge on both front wings.Although I cannot find a definitive answer, this car could be 1 out of only 7 RHD coupes that were built. If you wish to know more about these special editions, then please search online.L263 LMO was first registered on February 9th, 1994, and has been in my family since 1996, when it was purchased by my father in law, a professor at Brunel University and Jaguar enthusiast. I obtained the car in May 2016 when he stopped driving, and since then it has been maintained by Jagutek independent Jaguar Specialists near Ely. It passed its most recent MoT in August 2021 with only very minor advisories so is offered for sale in rude health.Whilst in my family ownership, the car has always been garaged and I have only used it in fine weather where possible which accounts for its outstanding condition. It benefits from recent rear Pirelli Cinturato P7 tyres which naturally have a great deal of tread depth, the fronts are older Pirelli P6000s which have many miles left but are by no means new.Significant work that has been carried out (excluding regular servicing as detailed in the service record) includes:11/ 09/ 2020: New Front Top Shock Mounting Kits (both sides)28/ 07/ 2020: Service, Air Con Re-gas.25/ 10/ 2018: Transmission cooler bypass (a common modification to increase reliability)14/ 08/ 2018: Cylinder Head Gasket replaced, Cylinder Head inspected and overhauled by specialist, complete service2017: Original audio head unit replaced with Kenwood CD player with DAB, Bluetooth, and USB inputs. Door speakers upgraded. (Work carried out by current owner and old head unit retained)17/ 06/ 2017: Alloy Wheels Refurbished by specialist, lower half of entire car sand blasted, all corrosion removed, and faults rectified before being re-painted in Jaguar Amethyst Blue.17/ 08/ 2016: Replace Headlining with correct colour and repair driver's front seat to original specification4/ 3/ 2013 Floors on both sides replaced by Jaguar specialist during major serviceAs you can see, a lot of the expensive work has already been completed at the cost of many thousands of pounds. Please take your time to view the video (search YouTube for the registration number: L263LMO) and you'll also find a link to an extensive photographic record in the comments section of the video. I have documented the condition of all the traditional XJS rot-spots – you will see that they are all intact and rust-free on this car as a result of the work that was carried out in 2017, since which is has covered fewer than 9,000 miles.Condition reportExterior: The exterior of the car is outstanding with gleaming Amethyst Blue paint, near perfect bright-work, as-new alloy wheels, and very tidy plastic/ glass components. There are some tiny marks, the biggest (which can be seen in the photos) is a small area of paint above the driver's side indicator repeater. Another notable defect is the passenger side door mirror mount – it looks as though at some point the mirror has been struck, slightly denting the top of the door. I hadn't noticed this and had to have a friend point it out to me. Bizzarely, the driver's door mirror is also slightly loose, but it's been like that as long as I can remember and has got no worse. There are a few other very small marks here and there as you would expect on a 26-year-old car but nothing that detracts from the overallappearance. One thing to note is that the exterior headlamp washers have been disconnected by a previous owner. I didn't bother to get them reconnected as I didn't want water sprayed all over the front of the car after I'd polished it.Engine Bay: The engine bay of this car was in very clean and tidy condition when I received it and I have tried to keep it looking just as good during my ownership. Firstly, there is no sign of any corrosion around the sides of the front strut mounts which is a common failure area on the XJS – the only area the detracts from the overall condition is the metal panel located in front of the radiator which could do with being stripped and re-sprayed as there is a small amount of surface rust showing. Please check the photographs.Interior: The leather interior is in beautiful condition and usual wear areas (such as the seat bolsters and piping) are all fine as the pictures show. The headlining was replaced in 2016. The rear seats are clean and undamaged, except for a small piece of plastic that is missing around the rear passenger side seatbelt latch – see the pictures. The carpet has benefitted from having over-mats fitted from new, as has the boot carpet, with its plastic liner. The air conditioning (essential in these cars I think) is ice-cold and silent when in use. This car benefits from the rare specification of a mobile telephone holder on the top of the centre console. Finally, the wood on the dash, ski-slope and doors is as close to perfect as you will find.MechanicalsThis car has been regularly serviced and has a comprehensive service record. It starts first time, pulls as you would expect from the 4. 0 Litre AJ6 engine, and the 4-speed automatic gearbox changes as smoothly as it should. There are no knocks of unpleasant sounds from anywhere on the car when in motion as I have kept on top of the maintenance during my ownership and replaced mechanical items as required – most recently I had the top suspension strut mounting kits replaced to eliminate a very slight knock on bumpy roads. You will see from the photographs and video of the underside that everything is intact, however refinishing work would need to be undertaken for the underside to look as good as the rest of the car. I've never considered this necessary as I've not used it as a show car.ElectricsThe electrical systems on these late cars is far more reliable than the early XJSs and this car has no known electrical faults. The original radio has been removed and replaced with a modern one, but it is supplied with the car and could be re-fitted easily. It was replaced because the front panel stopped working and I decided it was time to upgrade its functionality. There is the original CD changer in the boot, which is not connected, although it could be made to work with the new Kenwood head unit if required. What you get: The car comes with both its keys and remote fobs (one not working), logbook, service history, original radio and fitted car cover.Test Drives: If you are serious about purchasing the car then contact me and I will be happy to take you for a drive in it, observing all Covid precautions. If you wish to drive it, you will need to bring evidence of insurance. Cash on collection within 7 days please, no PayPal payments.
