LYNX JAGUAR XJS SPYDER (CONVERTIBLE) V12 HE - PROJECT for sale
Current customer rating:
The Lynx Motor Company was founded in 1968 by engineer Guy Black and architect Roger Ludgate. Originally formed to repair and maintain specialist sports and racing cars but they quickly made their name restoring and maintaining original Jaguar C-Types, D-Types and E-Types. Lynx converted the XJS from the original Coupe version. Engine came from Jaguar's V12 which was a relatively exotic engine configuration for the time and usually reserved for Ferraris and Lamborghinis. The XJS faired very well against its Italian counterparts with a 0-60mph time of 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 143mph. From July 1981 the XJS became the XJS HE and received the new High-Efficiency engine for much better economy. In 1982, the new V12 XJS HE won first and second at the RAC Tourist Trophy race at Silverstone. Lynx converted the XJS from Coupe to convertible in response to customer demand several years before Jaguar themselves were offering the car in this open body style. Each conversion took ten weeks to complete as the donor car had to be significantly re-engineered to retain sufficient strength in the structure.
The car was registered in 1985 and was in British Racing Green. As you can see the car has had all welding / bodywork completed and is in primer ready for complete respray. I have all of the car parts for the car in boxes, of course some of the items need restoration or replacement but overall most are in good condition. Unfortunately the roof needs to be recovered but frame and mounts are in good condition. As you can see from the pictures I have several MOT certificates, SORN confirmation and a pile of documentation including receipts and insurance documents that show ownership and mileage.
Car last had MOT in 2009 when the car had done 71,678 miles. Since 2010 the car has been off the road and SORN. I purchased the car in 2016 and the car drove on and off the trailer and into workshop with no issues, issue was the bodywork and interior needed restoring. I have had the car stripped and bodywork repaired by a car body shop who specialise in classic car restoration. As mentioned above, I have all parts for the car in my garage so it would be a project for someone to get the car painted, wheels refurbed, roof recovered, recover / spray interior, refit parts to car and service engine, brakes etc...
A similar vehicle is currently for sale in Europe at a price of €39k, so a great investment for anyone who wants to take on this project.
This car is obviously a project for someone to complete but a unique opportunity.
