Classic 1949 Plymouth Special De Luxe Sedan, V5, Runs & Drives, MOT & Tax Exempt for sale
Current customer rating:
You are looking at my 1949 Plymouth Special De Luxe, top of the range for 1949. It is fitted with the flathead 6 cylinder 217.8 cubic inch (3600 cc) engine mated to a three on the tree manual gearbox. I've had this car for about 4 years and to be honest, apart from a few local trips it's done nothing. It has sat idle since before lockdown but still starts and runs. It is in need of TLC before use and is tax and MOT exempt. It is garaged in South London, SE 5, please come and view.
Bodily it is solid, plenty of surface rust and bubbling but structurally sound, the chassis looks very good. It has the air of an older restoration and the interior has been restored at some stage too, probably some time ago, it has plenty of patina, inside and out. It has been garaged since I got it and not locked, these will need to be looked at, there is no boot lock.
It shows 29311 on the clock, I would imagine you could stick at least a 1 in front of that. Mechanically is seems strong but is in need of work, the engine is misfiring and there is a mild blow from the exhaust, apparently at a join. Since purchasing it has had a new radiator and 6 volt battery. Electrically you have no indicators or fuel gauge, lights seem to work.
The tyres are in good order, the brakes are drums all round so built for 1949 America and not 2021 London but they do work. Driving is leisurely but really quite enjoyable in a Driving Miss Daisy style.
I'm pointing out its faults obviously but it is a lovely solid MOT & tax exempt car in need of some love, please come and have a look at the car in South London SE 5 or have a look at this walkaround video:
Of course, being MOT and tax exempt you can drive this away, I advise getting it transported but certainly packing your AA car if you're going to drive it, in my opinion it's not roadworthy. It will need to be collected from South London, SE 5 within a week of the auction end, payment in cash or transfer. I recommend transporting it, our local mechanic is reasonably priced, message for a quote! Thanks for looking and happy bidding.
