Vehicle Details

Originally a Southern California car purchased by Stephen Ingersoll Zetterberg, delivery date March 18, 1972 from Frank White Imports Pomona California. Mr. Zetterberg maintained registration of the car through 2000. He and his family frequented their summer home on the shores of Lake Michigan, taking the 164e cross country. Mr. Zetterberg was the unsuccessful Democratic opponent to Richard M. Nixon in the 1948 California race for Congress. In 2014 I purchased the car from an auction who had gotten the car from the Zetterberg Estate. I planned a full reconditioning of the car and took it to my local Volvo Dealership... as it turned out, they did not have a mechanic qualified to work on the car, by the admission of the service manager. I was put in contact with a "Volvo Specialist" in Indianapolis who took on the project. We undertook a complete B30 power plant rebuild all new fuel injectors/fuel pump, and replaceable system components except the CPU ($5600), all new suspension bushings with slightly lower and stiffer coil springs ($1600), new OEM exhaust system, and alignment. Then disaster: The car has not been on the road since. The engine runs for about 30 minutes and then cuts off. The power steering unit is intermittent in functionality. I had taken the car back to this "Volvo Specialist" several times, he kept it, looked it over (several times) and was unable to come up with a resolution. Frustrated, I parked the car in 2015 in my garage: It is here that she sits. I am unable to find someone locally or in the state that is qualified to start over. I no longer have the personal time to chase parts and seek online "advice" through vintage Volvo Blogs. Time has slipped away over the last few years and I realize that I must let her go and allow someone else to keep her on the road. Not many of these left. Very few US Marked 164 series with the factory 4-speed gearbox and Laycock Overdrive. Everyone wanted the BW Automatic Transmission on this particular model. First year Bosch D-Jetronic on the 164. No rust. No evidence of body work. Small scuffs and heavy patina on the original paint. All glass intact and undamaged. I did include a picture of the one deep scratch with minor sheetmetal damage on the driver's door. Photos show a car with lots of garage dust. The paint is overall in much better condition than reflected in the photos. The car will have to be trailed / shipped. It is essentially non-running at this time. I am happy to answer questions.
