Here for your consideration is a delightful and early Star Six by Durant Autos.
This is the Landau Sedan Model R. the first year with a six cylinder engine.
It has electric starting. a three speed manual transmission. and wind up windows amongst its features. The engine is a Continental sidevalve. or flathead. straight six. coupled via a three speed manual gearbox to the rear axle. As yet unregistered. the import papers etc are present to enable it. So you could be the first registered owner. the first to drive it on the UK roads. and very likely the only owner of a Star in this country. Unrestored other than some paint and upholstery some years ago. it has a fabric roof in black. over black enamel down to the waistline. then a dark blue enamel below. White pinstriping completes the finish.
The fenders and chassis fairings are black. Inside the car is finished in grey cord upholstery with darker carpeting. There are some water marks to the interior fabric. though the car has been dry stored in the UK since its arrival.
Extra rear stop and taillamps have been sympathetically added. to improve on safety over the one centrally mounted rear lamp. Headlamps are functional in high and low beams. and the cowl lamps work well.
The electric horn is serviceable.
The Brake system comprises two methods. both operating on the rear wheels. offering adequate retardation within the performance of the vehicle. Wheels are steel detachable rims on wood spoke centres. The tyres are serviceable. There is a spare rim with the car. The car starts. runs. drives. steers and stops as presented. Some electrical rewiring has been carried out. you may decide to redo this with period cotton covered cable at some time in the future. A sympathetic restoration would enhance this rare model. at the risk of losing its patina. or you may choose to use it as is. after some minor fettling and sorting. The photos flatter the car. though it pleases the eye as it stands. Collection only please. UK bidders and addresses preferred.
