1978 MG Midget for sale
Current customer rating:
1978 MG Midget Spitfire runs well. Engine is solid. Brakes, some brake lines, master cylinder, clutch master, slave and line are new. The carburetor is serviced, radiator replaced and solid state ignition. Used only during the summer only since 1990, body and chassis are fine. some surface rust here and there. I have hesitated in repainting to maintain original paint. Stainless steel exhaust pipe and muffler, exhaust manifold replaced with steel header.
Has a more modern, spin-on oil filter.
Owner maintained and operated since 1990.
Known Deficiencies
Heating system is an extremely manual operation with hand operated vents, and one has to open the water valve to the heater from engine compartment. The heater fan works, (single speed) but the electrical switch is not fastened to the dash.
Heat and defrost work fine, but one does have to exit the vehicle, open the hood, and open or close water flow valves
Seat upholstery is in good condition and we use seat covers but springs and but support foam needs upgrading..
Exhaust manifold replaced with header pipes, (mainly because finding an original manifold was almost impossible to find).
Convertible top is in fair to good condition but there is a broken frame support on the drivers side which needs brazing/welding repair. It will try to scalp you if it is not secured properly. Glove compartment door latch works but sometimes sticks and won't close properly. Key is difficult to remove from ignition lock.
This is a warm blooded engine, It does not like to start in temperatures below 32 degrees. It likes 80 degrees or higher.
I am selling this because my knees don't bend the way they used to and do not want to embarrass my wife as I roll sideways out of the car.
