Vehicle Details

1965 Lincoln Continental Convertible

I am the 5th owner. Car delivered to Los Angeles in 1965 and spent its entire life in southern California until I purchased it about five years ago from a US Congress woman and her husband who owned it for 20 years prior to me and kept great care of it. This is an excellent running/shifting car. 123,000 miles.

This is my third 1965 Lincoln over the past 25 years. I know these cars quite well. I have driven this Lincoln on two separate trips from Seattle to Los Angeles and back without any problems. I visited John Cashman at his house in Palm Springs on one of these trips so he could work on the rear windows and convertible top.

John Cashman has made the convertible top function with great precision in addition to the automatic rear window drop that occurs when the rear doors open and close. John installed the remote control that operates the top. I replaced all hydraulic hoses for the convertible top plus numerous relays. The hydraulic hoses were made by the company HydroE specifically for this application. The rear back panel limit switch (>4K 500 dollars) is a rebuilt unit by John Brewer of Brewer Classic Lincolns, just as the upper back panel gear drive is also new and fabricated by John Brewer who sells these on his eBay store for over 300 dollars.

I replaced all vacuum hoses in the engine compartment, forward of the firewall. All vacuum motors function. New old stock front blinker lenses and front headlight LEDs were installed by me last year.

All the chrome is in great condition. All windows work. The car does not overheat or run hot. Rebuilt brake booster by BoosterDewey was installed about 3 years ago. Steering gearbox spacers are new.

New carpet custom made by Jim Wallace was installed last year. New convertible top fabric custom made for the car by Jim Wallace has not yet been installed but comes with the car.

Custom new front and rear red seat upholstery with cupholders recently performed by a local shop. Perfectly matched red seatbelts are installed in the front and rear seat, total of five. Not original to the car but they are original to 1965 Lincoln Continentals and restored by sSnakeOyl Company which specializes in this. The original colors are Fiesta Red paint, red leather seats, and red carpet with a white top. I have tried to stay as close as possible to stock, for no particular reason other than that's what I do. Custom kick panel speakers were built for me by the upholstery shop that did the front and rear seats.

Functioning, vacuum actuated movable steering column. All new coolant hoses and junction block. Original fiberglass fan shroud. Rebuilt fuel pump and a new fuel sender installed in the gas tank (fuel gauge works) with all fuel hoses between the gas tank and the carburetor replaced.

Comes with an extra power steering pump that has been rebuilt and ready to install. Also a power steering filter made by John Brewer. These pumps are known to fail eventually so I had one available as a backup but have not needed it.

I had a local shop rebuild the transmission. This is the 2nd 1965 Lincoln transmission that he has rebuilt for me. It shifts well. It brakes well too. Dual master cylinder conversion with proportioning valve to give more stopping power to the front disc brakes. The rear drum brakes work well too. I have an extra set of rear drums that go with the car when sold.

I have never had any problem starting the car regardless of it sitting without being used for months on the battery tender. Was garaged by the prior owner for 20 years preceding my purchase and for the last five years in my garage. I am not certain about its first 25 years but it was in LA the whole time and I have the prior vehicle registrations to document that.

No body or underside rust. Power antenna works. I installed a Back up camera which I find helpful. The monitor is mounted on the dash just to the left of the steering wheel.

I have a rebuilt quartz clock that I have not yet installed. I did this to my prior Lincolns. These cars deserve a working clock in the dash. The clock comes with the car when sold. I have an Aurora conversion rebuilt 1965 radio with Bluetooth. Comes with the car.
