Really pleased to offer something you don't see everyday! Check out our super cool 412 Variant, recently imported from South Africa and now fully UK registered as an historic class vehicle (tax exempt).

As it's from a dry state this car is really solid in all the right places. Underneath is remarkably clean and straight and structurally it's in great condition. Bodywork is also really solid, it's had a respray at some point in its life (definitely not recently) which wasn't done to a particularly good standard but actually, now that it's aged and weathered, it's given the car are really awesome ‘patina' that's added to the ‘gnarly' vibe that would simply get lost if painted again. We spent ages trying to decide whether to paint it or not as its a really good foundation for a restoration, there's little to no metal work needed – the odd bubble and some small surface corrosion here and there but nothing requiring any substantial fabrication. In the end we decided to fit some freshly powder coated Porsche alloys, drop the front end slightly by using BMW E30 front springs and go for the mean beaten up look. We're really pleased that we did as it's now got loads of character.

Lots of work has gone in to sourcing hard to find parts and getting it up and running properly. The engine is a 2.0 CU engine which we suspect came from a T3 at some point. We carried out all the usual service items on it plus fitted a set of Weber carburettors (which sound lovely). Here's a brief summary of work carried out:

Oil & filter New spark plugs New Leads New Starter switch Supply and fitted Weber Carbs Rectification to handbrake and cables New engine foam All new fuel hoses & clips New Inlet manifold & cylinder head studs Front braided hoses refurbished front brake callipers New brake pipes Supply & fit suspension legs & ball joints Porsche wheel adapters + longer bolts New battery Supply and fit carpet set Supply and fit glovebox Supply & fit door cards Supply and fit replacement interior Supply and fit genuine steering wheel

The way this thing drives is like no other air cooled VW I've driven before, its really comfortable and dare I say it...feels ‘sporty' through the corners! It trundles along nicely at 60 mph but you can feel there's a bit more to go. I'd go as far to say, you could probably use it every day depending on your daily use.

I've been driving the car for almost a week now and it's safe to say, I've never had a car that draws so much attention! I've chatted to numerous people almost on a daily basis about it and it's always met with positive feedback.

We've really enjoyed this one and I'm going to be truly sad when this one finds a new owner but, it's another one saved and now it's on to the next!

If you're looking for something really cool that stands out from the crowd, I couldn't think of anything better than this humble VW.
