"Once again, it all comes down to the 'eye snap'...." -Hagerty, 1968-70 Dodge Charger Buyer's Guide

Hagerty summarized the Dodge Charger's legendary appeal: "Few classic muscle cars have lived as large in the public eye as the second-generation Dodge Charger. Mythologized by the baddies in Bullitt, and then popularized by a pair of cousins never meanin' no harm in Hazzard County, the wicked wedge shape of Chargers built from 1968-70 has become instantly recognizable shorthand for cool, fast, and ferocious."

Offered here is a well-maintained and beautifully restored 1970 Dodge Charger 440 Magnum in Plum Crazy metallic over black. The VIN identifies the car as an original 1970 Dodge Charger with the "S" for "special" trim, "29" for the "hardtop coupe" body, "U" for the 440-cubic-inch, 375 -horsepower, 4-barrel carburetor V8, and "G" identifying the car's origin at the St. Louis Chrysler assembly plant. Manufactured in November 1969, the car's odometer now shows 50,781 miles.

The striking and highly desirable exterior Plum Crazy paint was professionally applied to a very high standard. The color is uniform and smooth across the curvaceous body panels. There is no unwanted overspray on trim, door mechanicals, or the like. The body-panel fit is at or above factory standards, and there is no damage to the sheet metal. The textured-vinyl roof is virtually perfect. Chrome on the bumpers fore and aft is in excellent condition. Other chrome-finished trim-on door handles, hood pins, side-view mirrors, window surrounds, gas-filler-cap, and taillight surround-is original, and it has been beautifully maintained. Lighting lenses-including on the "hide-away" headlights and full-width taillights-are clear and uncracked; cabin glass is similarly unmarred. All factory emblems-including the "Charger R/T" badges in the front grille and rear-center taillight trim, "Charger" script badges on the roof wings, and large "R/T" badges on the fender vents-are properly in place. Chromed 5-spoke styled steel wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich® Radial T/A performance tires.

The Charger's interior trim is in exceptionally well-maintained original condition. Seat upholstery in black vinyl (with perforated center inserts) on the front high-back buckets and rear bench features a horizontally pleated design; the surfaces are unworn and free of damage. Handsome woodgrain trim on the black, full-length console (with lockable storage) is virtually perfect. The pistol-grip handle for the four-speed manual transmission is mounted. Door-panels feature a horizontal design with metal trim, roll-up window cranks, and both "Charger" script emblems as well as a circular "Charger" brushed-metal badge; metal door-sill trim is in very good condition. The woodgrain-rimmed steering wheel with brushed metal trim fronts a woodgrain-trimmed dashboard and instrument cluster with larger, left-offset analog speedometer and 5,000-rpm-redline tachometer-with-clock, and four smaller engine-monitoring gauges to the right. The factory-original "Chrysler Solid State" AM radio remains mounted. Black cabin carpets are in place. The car's trunk is perfectly tidy and correctly finished.

Under the hood, and beneath the "440 Magnum" sticker on the air cleaner, is the 375-horsepower big-block Mopar V8. The engine black is painted the correct orange, and "Mopar Performance" finned valve covers are in place. The entire engine bay is perfectly clean and properly laid out; components are correctly mounted, hoses and wiring properly routed, and no aftermarket shine-enhancing sprays have been applied. Viewed from below, the Charger's chassis is complete, undamaged, clean, and-with the use of rust-inhibiting coating-virtually free of rust. The full-length dual exhaust system in pristine condition, and front disc brakes, are highlights.

The car's factory build and identification tags remain in place. Original owner's manual and a sheaf of maintenance documentation is included in the sale.

While the more than 195 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this Plum Crazy Charger R/T in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

For its eye-snap color, fastback styling, 440 Magnum, and most of all, for its superb condition, this '70 Charger R/T checks a lot of collector-interest boxes. It is impossible to imagine the car with anything less than a large, enthusiastic crowd of admirers circling it. The next owner, we're sure, will get used to that kind of "happening" at every stop.

About Garage Kept Motors

Garage Kept Motors, LLC specializes in classic and specialty online auto sales.

For our consignors, we are the only auto brokers that offer a Transparent Sale Disclosure. This means, when a car sells, we provide an exact copy of the Bill of Sale. We do this so our clients know exactly who bought their car, where it went, and most importantly how much we sold it for. No funny business.

For our buyers, our vehicles are listed on the Internet, with over 100 photos, including undercarriage pictures, and walk-around videos of the vehicles running plus a narrative-style write-up of the cars history and features. Our international exposure allows us to sell cars across the globe, and we sell a majority of them out of state and overseas. We deliver honesty and consistency in our photos and descriptions, a “no surprise” approach, so buyers, both near and far, can invest with confidence sight unseen. We are not a gallery. Vehicles can be seen locally by appointment as potential buyers are given our undivided attention.
