I have kept detailed records of every expense. part cost and installation time. and posted that information in the last two pictures. Completed in April. over a nine month period with:$5. 70 spent on cosmetics. $7. 30 spent on mechanicals and $5070 for 78 hours of shop labor. Add to that the 100+ hours of my time and everything now looks original and functions properly.
This car has been freshly painted in the correct gold color. The interior received new: seats. carpet and mat. sun visors. mirrors. coat hooks. plus courtesy light lenses. The trunk lining and mat were replaced. plus a spare tire cover was added to complete the trunk's "finished look". The transmission and torque converter were rebuilt and the engine was refreshed. The rear window drains. and all the rubber: body mountings. gaskets and sealsare new. as are the: ignition. charging. fuel. starting. cooling. wiper. steering and brake systems. All four tires and seven shocks are new and the A. C. and vacuum headlight systems. power windows. radiator andclock have all been rebuilt. As you can see in the pictures. all new decals along with meticulous detailing helps to give this car that "showroom new look".
Still in good original condition are the interior: door and side panels. rear deck. headliner. dash. gauges. steering wheel and column. as is the exterior: stainless steel trim. chrome. lenses. grills. door handles. driver's mirror. and window glass.
Upgrades include: a two bay master cylinder. exterior passenger side mirror. a steering gear box providing a tighter turning radius. high energy - pointless - long life ignition. dual throttle return springs. over sized oil filter. higher quality shocks and tires. all the bulbs were replaced with L. E. D. s. the design flaw in the glove box latch was corrected. and rear sequential turn signals were added.
The only flaw in the paint is a scratch about one inch long adjacent to the windshield wiper on the drivers side that I caused while replacing the wiper arm. The only foreseeable repair expense would be the two exhaust resonators. They are solid for now but rusted and may eventually need to be replaced.
With the numerical rating system for appraising this car having such a wide range between the # 2 and # 3 rankings; for more accuracy I used averaging to brake it down further. With # 1 being a Concourse rating and # 4 being a Daily Driver. this car would be considered a 2. 50. or "Very Good" condition.
Rating Condition Value From NADA Website
# 2. 00 Excellent $36. 30 (NADA's Actual Value)
(# 2. 33 Very Good $31. 95 an Ave. of 2. 00 and 2. 66)
(# 2. 66 Very Good $26. 60 an Ave. of 3. 00 and 2. 33)
# 3. 00 Good $21. 12 (NADA's Actual Value)
Besides the Owners Manual and Jack Components. I am including these extras: Repair Manual. Laminated Sale Brochures and Window Sticker. Car and Fender Covers. the Canvas Tool Bag filled with: a Set of Fan Belts and Radiator Hoses. Gas Filter. Thermostat. Rotor and Tools. Also included is an extra Embossed Air Cleaner Decal. and three N. O. S. Purolator PER-5 Oil Filters.
My original plan was to keep this car for may years and take it to local car club events. car shows and cruise-ins. Things have since changed and I would like it to go to someone that will enjoy it and not have it just sitting in the garage as it is now.
Besides being "Like New" in appearance. I have already spent the time. effort and money it takes to also make it safe and reliable. plus it rides and drives better than it did when it was new. You may find another one for a lesser price that looks as nice. but if it hasn't been restored to this level. on going repairs will end up costing more in the long run. Most rebuilds emphasis final presentation. In this case. with 70% of expenses going to updating the mechanicals. my priorities were: safety. reliability. functionality. ride quality. appearance. and comfort.
With over $18. 00 in improvements. the price I'm asking is far less than what I have invested. with nothing added for the 100+ hours of my time making repairs. plus the supplies used to detailing every inch of this car. Considering the extras. it is also less than the lower estimated book value. so please don't bother making any "low ball" offers. According to the NADA website. these cars have nearly doubled in price over the past ten years.
The information provided here is to the best of my knowledge. with some of it being provided by the dealer and internet websites.
