1936 Hudson 8 Business Coupe for sale
Current customer rating: (412 votes ) based on1936 Hudson 8 Business coupe. Was setting this up in a resto rod style. but unfortunately have just run out of resources to finish the project. I bought this car in a completely stripped condition and sitting in a backyard for years. There was no original power train. suspension. or interior etc. in the car. and all paint had been completely stripped. I have the title for the car.
At this point we have the rolling chassis nearly complete. The only major things to do on the chassis are brake and fuel lines. add a radiator. finish welding. some cleanup work and paint. Front suspension consists of an original Mustang II cross member with a heavier anti-sway bar sourced from a 90's GM sedan. Clearance and fit of the sway bar are good as full travel of the suspension never causes any binding of the anti-sway bar. Rear suspension consists of a parallel 4 bar with panhard rod and Carrera coil over shocks sourced from Speedway Motors. and an anti-sway bar sourced from Welder Series. Rear end was sourced from a 1979 Lincoln Versailles. which gives you rear disc brakes. Engine (351 Windsor). trans (C6 I believe). and driveline (which was shortened by a machine shop to length) were sourced from a late 70's Ford van. Engine has less than 90 K original miles. Front wheels are 16” with 205/60/R16 tires while the rear are 17” with 235/65R17 tires. Wheels. caps. and trim rings were sourced from Wheel Vintiques.
The body. as can be seen from the photos. is ready to sandblast and finish body work begun. There are only just minor dents and dings in the remainder of the body work and a few small rust holes. Amazingly enough this car has never had anything fall on it. or anyone jump on the roof. so for a car this old the body really is in good condition overall. especially with the rust repair that has already been performed. We still have the parcel shelf that goes behind the seats and was just planning on lowering its position inside the passenger compartment to give something of a jump seat. The body has had the major rust repair done and has been left in its original style. Due to rust in the arc of the wheel well. and the edge of the body floor coming out past the frame. we cut out the wheel wells and brought the floor of the body in line with the frame and filled the gap of the wheel well with new metal. Essentially giving a mini tub without having to touch the frame. We also had to cut the trunk floor out due to rust and clearance of the rear suspension cross member. The trunk floor was raised about 3-4 inches for this clearance. which gives plenty of room for the large gas tank so there is no problem with ground clearance to the tank. I do have the original grill. but it is such a brittle pot metal that it has broken in several places.
