Vehicle Description:

This 1928 Ford Model A De Luxe Roadster is a superb example of an exceedingly rare and sought after pre-war classic. Beautifully finished in correct Vagabond Green with Black Fenders and Running Boards and a new Tan Soft-top accented with Brown Piping over an excellent condition Brown Interior.

Like all Model A Fords. this gem of American motoring history sits on a 103. 5" wheelbase and is equipped with a 201 cubic inch. L-head. 4-cylinder engine producing 40 hp mated to a three-speed non-synchromesh transmission. capable of driving the car to top speeds between 55 and an optimistic and unwise 65 miles-per-hour. It can accommodate a driver and passenger. and two additional passengers squeezed into the rumble seat. which folds out. The optional hood ornament depicts a quail in flight. Add this fabulous Ford to your collection today! It is ready to drive. show. and enjoy.

In the late 1920 s and early 1930 s. the Ford Model A was one of the most publicized and best-selling cars in America. It was sporty. attractive. well-built. and smooth-running compared to the Model T. which it replaced in the 1928 model year.

The Model A Roadster is a two-door. folding top model with an optional rumble seat. available in standard and De Luxe versions. The Roadster was considered an open car rather than a convertible. Roadsters do not have glass side windows. Other distinguishing features of a Roadster are a windshield with standard wind wings which could be folded flat.

This De Luxe Roadster is equipped with a standard single side-mounted spare tire on the left front fender. a single rear bumper. a luggage rack (this fine example features a beautiful period auxiliary trunk) and coordinating colored wire-spoke wheels (finished in butter yellow here).

Overall. the Roadster was a sportier and more affordable alternative and can be distinguished from 1930/31's by a shorter height radiator and hood larger wheels. smaller hub caps and skinnier tires. The flow of the front fenders is different and they have a two-piece firewall. The shape of the cowl is also different to accommodate the lower hood and the style is different on most models. Other clues are their vertically fluted headlight lenses and drum style tail lamps rather than the later "teacup" style lamps.

The Ford Model A was first produced on October 20. 1927. but not sold until December 2. (it replaced the venerable Model T. which had been produced for 18 years). This new Model The much-anticipated 1928 Ford Model A was chic and sporty. and it had mechanical features that the Model T lacked: a three-speed. sliding-gear transmission. four-wheel brake system. and hydraulic shock absorbers. In less than two weeks there were 400. 00 orders. and Henry Ford could not keep up with the demand. By 4 February 1929. one million Model A's had been sold. and by 24 July. two million. Despite the onset of the Depression. Model A production remained strong at 1. 61. 53 cars in 1930 but fell to 626. 79 cars in 1931. the last year that the Model A was produced.

The Model A was the first Ford to use the standard set of driver controls with conventional clutch and brake pedals. throttle. and gearshift. Previous Fords used controls that had become uncommon to drivers of other makes. The Model A's fuel tank was situated in the cowl. between the engine compartment's fire wall and the dash panel. It had a visual fuel gauge. and the fuel flowed to the carburetor by gravity. A rear-view mirror was optional. A small door provided adjustment of the amount of hot air entering the cab. The Model A was the first car to have safety glass in the windshield.
