1985 Mercedes-Benz 300d Langversion. European model.
VIN# WDB1231321A188970
Final production year of the w123 series cars.
MB code 172 Anthracite Grey with 951 Black velours interior. a very handsome color combination.
8 seater capacity with fold away jump seats.
Factory built long wheelbase sedan. Rare in America as these cars were never officially sold through MBUSA. Chasis designated as the v123. 132. these "langversion" cars were generally ordered as house cars for hotels. embassies. and taxi's. According to the original build sheet. this particular car was immediately exported to Israel after being built. It then made it's way to the San Francisco bay area in the early 1990's where it reportedly served as a house car for a local hotel. In 2000. the hotel was sold. The car. and owner retired to the California Sierra foothills where it has been ever since.
*153k+ on working odometer.
*Solid body with no rust issues.
*Factory stock 15" wheels and hubcaps.
The car will need a new paint job as it had a mediocre quality re-paint around 15 years ago which has totally dulled out. giving the car a matte appearance. The left rear quarter panel took a moderate hit at some point in it's past and had crude repair work performed. It will need to be straightened out properly. Small dent on top of RH front fender. Hood is replacement from another car with traces of blue paint underneath. Minor dent on front bumper RH side. Other than these noted items. body is straight and solid. Door gaps and closure is excellent.
100% original Black Velours interior is very clean. Dashboard has cracks from the California sun. Trim wood is intact and shows some aging. Front seats show some wear. Rebuilt front driver seat with upgraded spring support pads from a 560SEL. Rear seats show very little wear. Rear velour headrests have sun damage. but have covers on them. Rear seat top. parcel shelf. and 1st aid kit cover excellent. Excellent headliner and door panels. Very good carpet and factory floor mats. Vacuum door locks work but bleed off after a few minutes of shut-down. All power windows work properly. Rear ventilation "wing" windows exclusive only to this model. Becker Gran Prix stereo and Manual Hirschmann antenna. The car also had a second antenna mounted on the RH rear quarter. possibly for 2-way radio or telephone. All cluster gauges work properly including clock. All automatic "Klima" fan controls work properly. Has stock A/C system with good compressor. Will need recharge of r12 freon or changeover to r134a.
Healthy mechanicals. The naturally aspirated OM617 powerplant starts. runs and shuts off as normal. both hot and cold. No oil leaks. No excessive tailpipe smoke. Transmission shifts are crisp and on time. Engine runs at normal operating temp with no overheating. 1 Year old battery still tests at 99%. No noises or vibrations from driveline or rear end. Front suspension would benefit from new control arm bushings and tie rod ends. no squeaks. clunks or other noises. just a bit sloppy as compared to how it should feel. especially with the bigger 15" wheel/tires. Very low miles on replaced brake pads. Has ABS and SLS hydro rear suspension. p205/65r15 tires all have 80%+ tread remaining.
*The car is part of a large private collection. It is started and driven short distances periodically. Prior to being considered a daily driver. it is recommended that this car receives a full service. Car is sold as-is and priced accordingly.
*Note that the car has European headlamps (non DOT). If you plan to register this car in a state that requires a safety inspection as per DMV. you will need to install DOT (American) w123 headlamps which do not come with the car.
