Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 616 votes
We are selling our "Miss Daisy" due to health issues.  I am no longer able to perform simple tasks like changing the oil.  My wife and I have had a lot of fun in this car.  We have taken it to local shows; lot's of folks have never seen nor heard of a Hudson.  The magic for me is that my late grandfather owned (and loved) his 1948 Hudson Super 6.
The successful bidder will receive all the service manuals (reprints). owners manual (original) and NOS parts that I have as well as all documentation that I have.  Car comes with 3 extra radios.   The current radio may need a fuse and some lubrication for the push buttons to work properly.  Again. I am unable to work under the dash to find and replace the fuse.
"Daisy" was purchased originally by a couple in Pennsylvania.  They sold it to a dealer in 1970.  The car sold in 1971.  The fellow I purchased her from bought her in 1984 and had extensive mechanical repairs done to the tune of $5300. (approx).  Those receipts are included.  I am the 4th owner.  I purchased "Daisy" in 2010.
GAS TANK - I had the gas tank professionally repaired by Moyer Fuel Tank Renu in Greensburg. Pennsylvania.  The local Body Shop removed and installed the gas tank for me.
BRAKES were overhauled at the local Tuffy Brake Shop that specializes in classic car repairs.  4 new wheel cylinders. master cylinder. and brake lines were installed.  The emergency brake works as do the brake lights.
A new battery. coil. spark plugs. carburetor have also been installed.
The exhaust is new - well. looks new.  Probably replaced in 1984.  The car was undercoated at the factory.
On my "Things To do" List - flush the radiator and block (after 64 years the old antifreeze silicate accumulates). check the universal joints. check timing. adjust the float in the new carburetor.  check out the radio. straighten 3 wheels.  replace rubber molding around all 4 doors. and redo the interior.  In my younger days. these are all things that I would have enjoyed doing.  Now - 2 knee replacements later. I am unable.
THE INTERIOR NEEDS TO BE REDONE.   An envelope with Fabric samples is in the trunk.  The Goodyear Foam rubber seats (a $16. 42 option!) need to be replaced.    The seat frames are fine.  This should be a straight forward repair.
OUTSIDE PAINT.  After I recovered from hearing the news of how much the local Body Shop wanted to repaint the car. I spent $7 on polish and wax!  The result is pretty nice.  I would say the paint is a 10 footer.  Any closer than that and flaws such as cracking. scratches (just a few) flaws. normal wear - begin to show.  The driver's door has a Bondo repair.  The right front fender (passenger side) shows the slightest evidence of a lead (old style) repair.  There was a repair to the back window - in a certain light. I can see where the paint starts and stops.
CHROME - some signs of pitting.  I have tried to show all flaws in the pictures.  I don't want you to be disappointed.
TIRES -  comes with 4 Sears All State bias belt 3 3/8 inch wide white walls and one  (BFG original mold) new tire from Universal Vintage Tire in Hersey. Pennsylvania.  2 of the All States are dated 1971 and 2 are dated 1981.  All 4 All States come with inner tubes.  The BFG is mounted as a tubeless.  The Goodyear dealership where I had the tire mounted wasn't certain why tubes were used.  The 4 Sears tires are soft with no cracks - absolutely amazing.  Because of their age. I drove less than 50 mph. well. mostly.  There were a couple of times on the expressway where we cruised easily at 70 mph.
ENGINE - is the straight 8 264 cid with 128 horsepower.  To put it in perspective. the 1950 Ford V-8 had 239. 4 cid and 100 horsepower.
CLUTCH - Tuffy adjusted the clutch.  A local Hudson Club member drained and refilled the clutch with Hudsonite clutch fluid.  Hudson clutches have 105 (more or less) holes drilled in them with cork inserts.  The result is a very smooth shifting transmission.
FRAME is straight and true.
OVERDRIVE -  works!  With the overdrive knob in the "out" or "ON" position. the car shifts into overdrive in speeds above 45 mph.  It is a HOOT! to cruise down the expressway at 60 mph.  Need to pass a slow car?  Simply depress the accelerator and the car downshifts - and away you go!   I can see why my grandfather loved his '48 Hudson.  THIS IS A FUN CAR TO DRIVE!!
HEATER  works; TURN SIGNALS work. CLOCK does not.
This car is a driver.  On a scale of 1 to 5. I rate it as a 3.
To repeat: I have tried to show all flaws in the pictures.  I don't want you to be disappointed.
YOU ARE BUYING THIS CAR AS IS - NO WARRANTY expressed or implied.
Email me any questions you might have.  The car is located on the SW side of Chicago. Illinois.  You are welcome to come and personally inspect the car.  Please email me using "Ask the Seller a Question"  option and include your phone number.
A $500. deposit through Pay Pal within 48 hours of the close of the auction is required.
Pay Pal or a Bank Check (certified Funds) for the remaining amount is expected within 7 days of the close of the auction.  I reserve the right to hold that check until it clears my bank.
AUCTION WINNER  will secure his/her own insurance PRIOR to pick up.  Insurance for a classic auto is inexpensive - I think I pay $100/year.   You really want insurance to protect your investment.  Relying on the car hauler's insurance could be disappointing should there be a lost incurred during transit.
Transportation - I have used McNutt Transportation to haul 2 cars for me in the past - with excellent results.  The cost is about a dollar a mile.  The winner will arrange - AND PAY- for transportation.
