ONE OF ONLY 500 GOLD SR 2 SCOUTS PRODUCED IN 1970.

Of these. how many gold numbers matching SR 2 s are left in the world? A handful perhaps?

Who knows maybe this is the last surviving Gold SR 2 with matching original factory engine.

The SR 2 promotional prototype special edition was only produced in 1970 for a few months. Most of them were red and the total produced was only 1. 75.

Matching numbers 1970 Scout SR 2 800 A. with line setting ticket for documentation. 304 V 8. Automatic transmission. 3. 73 differential gearing. 4 x 4.

V 8 POWERED

Engine is the correct original one installed from the factory. engine block numbers match the numbers listed on the line setting ticket paperwork. which will be supplied to the purchaser.

All 4 VIN/Identification tags are matching Frame number matches. Federal Safety label matches. VIN plate on left door matches. and original sticker on the underside of the hood is still present. with the correct displacement engine represented as "304 E"

The 304 V 8 rumbles with a deep tone and has a freshly rebuilt factory original Holley carburetor with automatic choke. Rebuilt starter just installed with new battery cable. Engine retains enclosed air cleaner. stock valve covers and both exhaust manifolds and intake manifold. Engine just had fresh oil and filter change. New oil pressure sending unit. (fired it up today and saw good oil pressure)

Correct drivetrain - Dana 44 Positraction rear axle. Dana 30 front axle. Dana 20 transfer case and Borg Warner automatic transmission. 3. 73 differential gear ratio.

I drove it yesterday and the 304 engine pulled pretty hard. sounded good. and the transmission shifted well through all gears when set in "Drive". (trans does drip). Shifted in between 4 wheel LOW and 2 wheel HIGH on transfer case for the 4 x 4 and it operated fine. Shifting into "LOW" is best accomplished with engine off and trans in neutral. Engine started right up every time. after every stop.

WS wipers are not hooked up.

Oil pressure gauge works. Headlights work. Taillights work. speedometer works (a bit wiggly). factory AM dash radio does come on / head unit operates.

NEW 2 STAGE URETHANE PAINT (1 month old)

New two stage dupont paint with urethane clear (basecoat/clearcoat). Exterior trim was stripped and the body was prepped. primed. and painted with the top off. Truck was painted with the windshield out. a new windshield and new rubber seal were installed after paint. Factory style SR 2 stripes were added to the sides and hood by a professional striper.

The paint has a nice sheen and glow to it.

Interior door jambs and outer shells were repainted. full exterior. inside panel on tailgate. and tailgate jambs. The dash and transmission tunnel retain the factory gold paint that it came with.

New exterior chrome side mirrors on both doors. The SR 2 models did not come with any front fender emblems besides just the simple "Scout" chrome script. All 4 chrome sidemarker bezels remain. along with correct grill trim and hood ornament. Exterior trim was cleaned with steel wool while removed and some new items were added. new reverse lenses and bezels and new taillight lenses. Hood ornament was repainted by hand. Headlight bezels were repainted in black as original

The white hardtop with its original sliding SR 2 option windows has had new white paint applied to the exterior. The rear lift gate opens and closes as it should. As with most scouts. the door windows require assistance from the opposite hand when raising and lowering. Drivers door is pretty easy. passenger door regulator is worn.

The floors are solid as are quarter panels and rockers. Where applicable. floors were welded with new 18 gauge steel and supports. Floors have been coated with spray on bedliner. To the best of my knowledge. I believe that all body panels currently on the vehicle were original panels to the vehicle.

Frame has been painted in semi gloss black. Undersides of floors have been undercoated in black (was factory undercoated when new. per LST)

UPHOLSTERY

Interior front and rear seats have been reupholstered and are the original seats. they were redone in Oxen black leatherette and were stitched to replicate the original pattern.

Dash appears as original. with 800 script still on dash. The instruments and bezels are stock. steering wheel is original. and even the very rare factory AM radio still resides in its place. The view is enhanced by a clear new windshield and rubber weatherstrip.

Hardtop is fully removable. headliner partially intact. Visors are there as well.

If you'd like new front door panels made to look like the originals. let me know and I can have them built for you in a couple of days (black. this vehicle originally came with black door panels)

NEW GOODYEAR TIRES with under 10 miles. 235/75/15

White letters face out. as the SR 2 s originally had. and yes they came with Goodyear tires in 1970.

Factory chromed 15" original SR 2 rally wheels remain at all 4 wheels.

BRAND NEW DUAL EXHAUST with under 10 miles

Brand new dual exhaust pipes and mufflers were just installed from manifolds to rear axle exit. It had a pretty "Fat" sound yesterday when I ran it around town.

Brakes were just bled. It stopped fine when I drove it on side streets. I have been using the passenger side fuel tank. not using drivers side.

At some point this appears to have had air conditioning as well.

As mentioned. I have the LST printout describing full factory equipment and SR 2/Doll Up Scout.

----- I would bet that there are extremely few remaining numbers matching gold SR 2 V 8 Scouts in existence. I have heard from a few scattered gold SR 2 owners around the country. Are those numbers matching? I'm not sure. Total SR 2 production was 1. 75 flame red units but only 500 in gold. Total produced was only 1. 75. (International Scout Encyclopedia)

. And yes. if you were not aware. the International Scout was the first American SUV. which later inspired Ford when they brought out the Bronco. In my opinion. this International Scout SR 2 is much more unique and collectable.

Driving it yesterday brought quite a number of smiles. finger pointing and "nice truck" comments. :)
