Rare rust free survivor spent its working life on the salt-free roads of southern California. This 4-door Cruising Sedan underwent a major frame off restoration in the 1990's and currently has 4675 miles on its rebuilt original engine. Solid undamaged body. undercarriage. frame. floors and trunk. Lustrous paint finished in original Berkshire gray color. Excellent chrome and stainless steel trim - nothing missing. All glass is clear and intact with good rubber seals. Interior restored using original matching materials on seats. door panels and headliner. Optional Studebaker features include 8 tube push button radio; cowl antenna; clock; climatizer; overdrive; hill holder; bumper wing tips; rear back-up lamp and after-market directional signals/emergency flasher. Set of 4 Firestone whitewall tires in excellent condition with unused blackwall spare. Serial #. body # and motor # all match original factory production order showing build date of January 17. 946 in South Bend. Indiana.
To the best of my knowledge and examination by several independent mechanics - these are the car's shortcomings:MECHANICAL:  Transmission gear oil leakage; modest engine oil leakage; hard starting; sluggish acceleration and operation; loose steering; sloppy shift lever operation; inoperable hill holder; epoxy patched crack in gas tank; mixed old and new wiring taped or spliced together; I have not used overdrive and climatizer and don't know if they actually work. BODY:  Paint finish has some minor flaws - a few chips below hood line. blister below rear window and some light scratches here and there. Otherwise. paint looks great for 20+ years; one rear door does not lock; side vent windows do not fit snugly - small gaps may let rain or wash water enter the interior; broken hood release cable has temporary fix; wheel rims missing circular white pin striping; front and rear bumpers (although similar) are reversed; spare tire in trunk not in proper stand-up position; spare tire rim needs to be re-painted; temporary exterior rear view mirrors installed. INTERIOR:  Loose ill-fitting floor carpeting (especially in front); radio needs re-build - produces only static and is not properly fixed to dash; clock works only intermittently; rear ashtray doesn't open.
Bear in mind this 71 year old vehicle is being offered "AS IS".  There is no assurance of reliability - anything can fail. break or deteriorate at any time including recently installed repair parts (they're old too). If there is anything else wrong with the car not mentioned here. I'm not aware of it. Ideally. the buyer should have some mechanical ability to perform routine repair and maintenance tasks by himself. Accompanying the car will be a collection of spare parts and accessories: Studebaker Service & Shop Manuals; 6-volt battery tender; 1946 Owner's Guide; factory production order from Studebaker National Museum; historical documentation on previous owners going back to 1965 California (original?) owner; service and repair receipts from 2017 going back to late 1990's. Car has current New York transferable registration and is located in Staten Island. NY.
Full payment expected within 10 days of auction closing by bank cashier check or cash.  Check must clear bank before car is released.  Contact seller at 347-791-7667 for more information or additional photos.
