1971 VW 1302 S Beetle
You are looking at my highly modified bug which has spent the last two years being restored and brought to the stage at which it is today. It has taken countless hundreds of hours to turn a previously ugly duckling model bug into an award winning early looker. It was awarded the 'Organisers Choice' trophy at Dubfreeze in February this year.
Body-
As those who know their aircooled VW's will know. it is relatively straightforward to convert the front end of a mid seventies beetle to the earlier and more desirable pre 1967 panels. by simply bolting on wings and bonnet and swapping the front valance for the earlier version. A 1302 or 1303 cannot be modified in this way due to the front end being wider to compensate for the macpherson struts.
To achieve this look. the bonnet was firstly cut in half at the shorter nose end and this was replaced by the nose of a 1200 bonnet. to replicate an early long bonnet. The early front wings were then rotated forward 75mm to correct the nose profile. and stretched at the rear to meet the running boards. A front valance was custom made to complete the front.
The rear end features a steel oval window graft and semi W decklid. earlier rear lamps . new removable rear valance.
Most folk don't even notice that the body mods have been carried out. which was precisely the idea.
Floorpans and heater channels have also been replaced.
Early door hingepin mounted mirrors fitted. to new hinge pins as old ones were worn and had play in them.
Painted inside and out in the car's original colour- L90D Pastel white in 2 Pack  and lacquered with Lechler 2 Pack lacquer.
Engine-
Engine is a 1776cc. featuring
Counterweighted crank. lightened flywheel. bottom end balance.
Kennedy stage 1 clutch
Engle 110 Cam
Full flow oil system. external FRAM oil filter
Match ported heads
Berg equaliser pulley
Ceramic coated merged header. mondo silencer
Twin 40mm Weber carbs
Built by Dan Simpson

Interior-
Porsche 944 front seats. new headliner and VW heritage carpet set in red.
Front and rear seats and front door cards trimmed to match a 1959 door card set which I intended to use- though the early front cards were slightly different in size so I had the originals trimmed in the same style to match the rest of the interior. Fluted pattern of the Porsche tombstone seats has been repeated in the rear seat base and back to match. Work by Dimiler Sew And Trim.
Floorpan main areas. firewall and luggage area has Silent Coat anti vibration damping mat. rear has 3M sound deadening insulation in addition.
One piece Cal-look windows
Machine 7 bespoke electric window mechanisms; these are far superior to the kits that just wind the original mechanisms up and down. they are a direct replacement mechanism and operate smoothly. quietly and without judder. Hats off to Michael Leche.  Something compels me to wind my windows down at trafffic lights! Sad but true; I don't give electric windows a second thought on my boring modern daily driver!
Extras-
Entire brake system renewed- drums. discs. lines. all cylinders. flexis. shoes/ pads. Discs and drums are Machine 7   5X112PCD stud pattern
 Porsche Fuchs replica alloy wheels
New tyres all round
Outer track rod ends replaced. nbsp; 4 wheel laser tracked.
All door. window. lamp etc seals replaced new on rebuild
Machine 7 strut brace
Empi quickshift
VDO Cylinder head temp gauge
SunPro Rev Counter with shift light
Sony CD player and 6x9 speakers in parcel shelf
This bug has been a design in my mind for years. I have hardly used it. it's longest drive being down to VW Action at Santa Pod this year where I did three 17 second RWYB passes with camping gear and the spare wheel still in! After spending many thousands on my dream bug. I am regrettably selling due to another little family addition requiring us to move to a larger house.

Thanks for looking

Hi there - do you have any photos of the engine at all? My son has just bought this bug but I think the engine has been swapped out at some point :(
