1986 BMW 535i SE (E28)

Originally a BMW press car when new and then sold to a gentleman who was a British Motocross Champion in the sixties. He owned it for several years. He then sold it to Chalky White who himself was a former Truckie for the DTV Dealer Team Vauxhall in the 70's and 80's.   Chalky only bought the car to use the tyres on his own 7 series BMW and mentioned to a friend of mine that he may sell it.   Chalky only owned the car for a couple of months. A friend of mine bought it from him as it was now lying dormant and it was far too good for somebody to ruin. So yes it has had four owners but only two drove it hasn't been on the road since 2003.

 A desire to enter the 360 MRC 6 hour race and the rules at the time stating that the cars had to be Pre 1986. non turbo and 3500cc maximum meant the 535 was possibly the best car for it and here we had a superb example.

Work began on the 535 in 2009 with majority of the fabrication work carried out by Custome fabrications. with there own design of rollcage. lots of lightening and a custom 100 plus litre fuel tank. detail in the fabrication is fantastic and the cage is fully tig welded.  

Custom Fabrications have years of esperiance work at Prodrive and now build cars like the Gobstopper 2 and Ford focus touring cars. The car was then moved to Performance Autoworks for final prepration work.

The car was built for the 2011 360 6hr endurance race but also to Classic touring car regs and so still has limited engine modifications. hinges on the bonnet and boot and all glass windows.

During quilfiying of the 2011 endurance race the engine suffered head gasket failure and was the garaged until funds for 280/300hp engine and minor other upgrades could be carried out!  During this time. only brake master cylinders and steering arms was replaced still leaving engine to be fixed.

2013 see a change in persoanl circumstances for my friend. nbsp;so the vehicle was bought back to Performance Autoworks to have work carried out to get the vehicle ready to race and to sell on.

Now the BMW is ready to race with tested exstigsher and new harnesses and the standard engine has had new gasket. skimmed head. rack tested and modified coolant system.

The car could go racing tomorrow but would benifit from a test/track day to set up braking system (bias). replace tyres but would be fine for testing and to replace dash cluster or add gauges to dash ( this was something that was on the cards. gauges can be supplied at extra cost).

The body of the car is striaght but being 27 years old there are scatches and marks.

This is something different and would bring massive enjoyment in endurance racing. classic touring cars

 or just track day fun.

(Both are the biggest direct fit available for this car. So replacements are off the shelf)

BMW BBS split rims.   8x17 all around for easy rotation

Wheel stud conversion for rapid location during pit stops

Unused Corbeau Revenge seat

Sparco wheel with quick release

Plumbed fire extinguisher

Manual winding windows (rare!)

OBP bias pedal box

NASCAR type mirror

Inline vent fan

Race battery

Removal of all excess metal work including brackets

UNDER BONNET:

3. 4 M30 BMW engine

Rebuilt head just been crack tested. skimmed. new valves

Brand new radiator

Brand new Electric fan conversion

Stainless free flow tubular manifold and system with single back box

Brand new High flow induction system

Removal of excess brackets and bonnet bracing

Welded Strut brace integrated into the cage

5 speed manual “overdrive”

UNDER THE BOOT:

CUSTOM FABRICATION 120litre baffled Aluminium fuel tank

Twin fuel pumps (wired separately and switched by driver in case of a failure)

Removal of excess bracing and brackets

Strut and diff Brace integrated into the cage

Don't confuse this car with a home built effort. Custom Fabrication are leaders in the Cage industry and built all of the Hondas in the BTCC. many of the Aston Martin Vantage and DB9 racers for the factory. numerous Rally and Race cars for several top line teams that can't be mentioned. And Performance Autoworks build and run many fast road. track day and race cars to high standards. With 60 litres of fuel and no driver this car weighs 1089kgs.   That's with glass fitted!!!

This is a one of a kind racing car with a classic shape. plenty of power. a glorious soundtrack and looks fantastic!!!!
