FORD GPW BRITISH ARMY CONTRACT JEEP 1944 “M6270144” CHASSIS NO: 247674

I am downsizing my classic car collection & have the following Ex British Army ww2 Ford GPW Jeep for sale

If you are looking for a rare piece of WW2 British History. or a Jeep for your Museum. then keep reading

This  Ford GPW  is a very rare surviving British Army WW2 Contract Jeep with Army modifications & repairs  like Butler sidelights on the front wings. extra convoy switches on dashboard & Original 1940`s Dunlop & Firestone tyres & chassis number stamped on the side of frame horn. not on the top

Found in a Barn several ago. where she had been in storage since the mid 1970`s. amp; Sold off by the British Army in the late 1950`s I believe she may have had just 3 other owners including myself

The Jeep which still retains her original combat rims (x 5) comes with a copy of the Army “Key card” which I obtained from the Deepcut Museum giving Army registration 22 YH 75 &WW2 Hood Number “M6270144” which I have repainted on the bonnet.

Painted in Post War Army Green and scratched & scraped & still carrying the white front grill for visibility when driving through the bombed out cities of Europe. I have left this GPW as found and overhauled instead of over restoring. although I have just restored & sprayed the windscreen frame in Olive Drab

Under the dark green paint the original olive drab still shows through. It is also possible that she may also still have some of her markings. As you can see I have been exploring on the nearside rear bumperette & there is sign of markings

In December 1954  this GPW was put through an army rebuild program at Ashford in Middlesex. The Ashford rebuild plate still survives on the cylinder head. as does the brass British Army I. D plate on the windscreen frame giving Army registration 22 YH 75 & chassis number 247674

She has covered around a couple of hundred miles since an engine mechanical overhaul

Below is a list of some of the work carried out to bring her into the current condition including welding

Firstly. only a small amount of welding was required as chassis & tub were in very good condition having been primed & undersealed on her 1950`s Army rebuild

Welding work included New Fuel Tank Box. Footsteps & a small amount of hat channel section

Mechanical work included: Engine totally rebuilt. including new water pump

New 6 volt Battery. plugs. Cap. leads. Coil & points

Rewired  to 6 volt with new wiring harness & fitted indicators

New fuel Tank

New Wiper frame & Wipers

All new brakes including pipes & master cylinder

New Clutch

New exhaust system

2 x New 1940`s old stock rear “Firestone” Bargrip tyres

Radiator rebuilt

New Worthing`s canvass GPW Summer top with rear window

Front seat pads recovered in green Vinyl to match existing

Spare  Humber Side panels come with Jeep

Based in Surrey 5 miles from M25 Junction 6 for viewing & collection

Now comes the only bad point. Although this Jeep runs sweet like a sewing machine & is rready to roll & enjoy. & will take you anywhere. like most Ford GPW WW2 Jeeps it does have a small hairine crack in the water jacket of block above the distributor. The crack has probably been there since WW2 & was sadly not noticed when the engine was rebuilt

She uses no water & there is no sign of water in the oil. The leakage is absolute minimal

It is up to the new owner if they want to repair or just drive as is. & this is the only reason I am selling for £10. 99 & not £15. 00 or £16. 00

There is a current MOT on this vehicle although no longer required. The GPW is also taxed unti August 2014

Any questions. feel free to ask. but please no time wasters   Regards
