HISTORY
The Hudson Motor Car Company was known for producing durable. well engineered but conservatively styled automobiles. That reputation was to be forever changed when the NEW Terraplane models were introduced on July 21st 1932 at a huge outdoor event. The first Terraplane was christened by Amelia Earhart who in May was the first woman to fly alone across the Atlantic! On the spot Radio coverage flashed the event to the nation. Topping off the day's events was a massive dealer driveaway of some 2. 00 new Terraplanes which formed a gigantic parade through the streets of Detroit before fanning out to their destinations all over the country! By 1937 the Terraplane was completely changed from the 1932 models. The automakers made annual updates and changes to keep up in the very competitive automobile market during the depression.
The 1937 Terraplane convertible coupe featured in this auction has been treated to a very high end complete correct restoration by two real experts on these cars. The work was done 15 to 20 years ago. but still looks fresh. Many NOS parts and accessories were used on this car. It has dual sidemount spare tires. radio. clock. dual taillights. fender lights. directional signals. dual horns. a NOS banjo steering wheel. fender skirts. grille guard and Goodyear Diamond tread whitewall tires. The current mileage shown is 08809. The actual mileage is unknown.
CONDITION
This car has to be one of the best Quality Terraplane converts on the planet! It is also undoubtedly one of the best equipped. It is a very nice correctly restored example. I drove it last weekend. It starts instantly. runs and drives very well and makes great power. The sidemount tire covers were painted. but never installed. There is a beautiful deep maroon Leather interior done with materials sourced from Bill Hirsch. The woodgraining on the dash is beautifully done. A reproduction front floormat completes the interior. The convertible top has never been lowered. There is an electric fuel pump for fast starts after long storage. The paint is done in Dark Maroon and looks great. Many of the chromed items were NOS. the rest were beautifully rechromed. All of the lights and gauges are operational. The clock and radio are inop. This car recently won Best of Show honors at the Mayville Michigan carshow.
