1971 Buick Gran Sport. Stage 1.   If you want a very nice. original Stage 1. this is it. This is a documented. NUMBERS MATCHING. car with the original window sticker and Protect O Plate documenting authenticity. It is believed that the car has only 53. 15 original miles on it.   The car comes with some various mechanical repair receipts over the years where mileage was documented when the work was performed. The last several owners. like me. maintained the car for show and did very little driving. I purchased the car in 2008 and may have logged about 1000 miles on it. It has California "STAGE 1" personalized license plates.    NO RESERVE PRICE.  The car will go to the highest bidder. however I have the car listed for sale locally so if I receive an offer I can't refuse I reserve the right to end the auction early.  So if you're interested in the car bid early so I know the interest.

Besides the very low mileage. what makes this GS Stage 1 rare is the Rosewood brown color of the paint.  According to the Stage 1 registry. out of 10. 95 GS cars produced in 1971 only 124 coupes were ordered with this color.   It is unknown how many Stage 1 cars. if any others. had this color because specific Stage 1 records for paint were not kept.   I have been involved with Buick GS cars since 1995. having previously owned a 1970 where I won the 1999 Good Guys Muscle Car of the year award in Pleasanton Ca. I attended the GS Nationals several times and have never seen another GS with this color. There were only 801 Stage 1 cars build in 1971. so it is unlikely many others came with this color.

The car is in very nice condition.   I recently had the original Rally wheels re-chromed. The centers were painted with the correct flat back.   The rims of the spokes are the correct "brushed" finish rather than bright chrome which is how many are refurbished.   I purchased new BF Goodrich tires several months ago. I replaced the carpet recently. The dashboard and interior seats are near perfect. The paint is not perfect but is in very nice condition with only one re-spray about 12 years ago with minimal imperfections.

There is no rust on this car that I am aware of.   I disassembled. detailed and resprayed the engine compartment with the correct satin black and sprayed the trunk with the correct spatter paint. so these areas look like new. There is nothing on the car that looks modified. no extra chrome. all correct parts. the car appears factory original. It has an automatic Turbo 400 transmission. center console and bucket front seats.   I have receipts for the transmission being replaced. The car shifts solidly. The rear end differential is a 10 bolt. and has 3. 42 gears. posi-traction. All are standard on the Stage 1.

This car is all original and unmolested other that what I have mentioned above. This car starts right up and runs strong. never a miss or stutter. I had the original carburetor professionally rebuild two years ago. The car steers straight and does not drift side to side. I use this car for local shows but you could drive it anywhere with no problems. The car has not had a frame off restoration.  The undercarriage is fairly clean. not like a frame off restoration. some parts have been resprayed. but overall the undercarriage is in great shape. The floor pans are not rusted and appear original. The H pipe dual exhaust is not original. The gas tank has also been replaced. The disk front brakes and rear drums are in very good condition. I have a second pair of brand new air cleaner foams for show and new door seals that I have not put on yet.  It also comes with a car cover. I am unaware of anything wrong with the vehicle. Due to its age. it is sold as is. there is no warranty. so feel free to inspect it.

According to NADA. com. a 1971 Stage 1 is valued as follows:

Low retail: $15. 00   Average retail: $26. 00.   High retail: $46. 00. Hagerty. com and Hemmings. com have similar pricing but both have a top value of $55. 00.

High retail is a completely restored car with possibly a frame off restoration and will win car shows.

This car is between Average and High retail. closer to High in my opinion but lacking a frame off restoration but otherwise it is leaning toward the High category.  It is priced in the middle of the average and high categories. Do your homework and bid according to market values.

Please don't bid unless you are serious and have the funds to purchase this car. Feel free to contact me with questions or additional photos.  NO TRADE DEALS so don't ask. Preferred Payment is a wire fund transfer or cash but a cashier's check will be accepted however the car will not be released until I am confident the check clears. this could be 10 to 14 days depending on the bank. I will cooperate with shipping the car within reason but you are responsible for arranging the transportation and paying for it.   I will not ship the car outside the mainland of United States.
