1972 Chevrolet El Camino El Camino for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.25) based on 102 votes

California car with rare factory options including Super Sport style gage cluster. 4 seasons air conditioning. power steering. power front disc brakes. vinyl top and tilt wheel.   Numbers matching 4 speed and 12 bolt 3:31 posi-traction rear. Appears to be the original intake and 4 barrel Rochester on top of a strong smooth running 79 crate engine. Mallory HEI distributor. Hurst competition plus shift kit that shifts smoothly with no vibration.

This was an original 4 speed bench seat car. the original 71/72 Chevelle/El Camino buckets with head rests were added some time later and are in great condition top to bottom.

Although this car has most. if not all SS options. I suspect the SS badges were added later. The steel domed hood may also not be original to the car. This car never had the body side moldings or rocker moldings. so there are no additional holes or crud traps. The AC works. but did not blow cold last summer and appears to still be R-12 based on the fittings. Additional temp and oil pressure gages have been added and work. The gas gage works intermittently. Radio cassette added many years ago and is of low quality compared to systems of today. but sounds okay.

I have the original “Protect-O-Plate” along with some other original documentation when the car was purchased new by a TWA employee in California in 1972. I do not have the build sheet. but the gas tank appears to never have been out. so there may be a copy there. The odometer shows approx. 27. 00 miles and could be original based on condition. but there is no way to actually prove it. so assume otherwise.

The gage cluster appears to be original to the car and has 2 small plugged holes as seen in the pictures. I do not believe much. if any modification was done for the current radio. The gage cluster is still very nice considering its age. Speedometer and factory tach work great.

Paint is “House of Kolor" Black Cherry Pearl with a silver base coat finished with a top-coat of clear. Center of hood painted in gloss black with thin painted purple accent stripes. According to the man that painted the car the body was taken down to bare metal with no evidence of rust. panel replacement or ever being hit. No filler was used; only sealer. primer and paint. I found no evidence otherwise. Fenders and hood were removed for paint and are rust and dent free. The paint is not perfect. but is very presentable. Original factory color was code 65 orange flame. an SS color.

Floors are original. rust free and near perfect under the new carpet and under the car. “Smugglers box” is also rust free and near perfect. Bottom of fenders. tailgate. and doors rust free. Inside of doors and quarter panels rust/dent free.

Bumpers. bed stainless. grille and head light trim appear as new. Wheels are 15 inch American Racing Torque Thrust aluminum and are in nice condition. Engine maintains the original manifolds with dual exhaust that ends with muffler turndowns. which may not be legal in some states. but tailpipes could easily be added as the system is like new. Red line Pirelli tires with plenty of tread.

Suspension lowered  2 inches utilizing new springs on all 4 corners. complimented by rear spring bags and factory adjustable air shocks.

Frame is smooth. rust free and damage free. As nice as they come and painted with a thin coat of satin black. This car was built with the heavy duty boxed frame similar to the convertible frame for strength and stability. Front suspension is original. but tracks straight and true.

This car is as nice or nicer than many of the El Caminos and Chevelles currently listed in the 25K range and one of the few with super solid original body panels and floors and a 4 speed stamped with the factory VIN.

Inspections are welcome prior to purchase. I have a drive on lift for easy inspection and verification to prove condition as stated above. I am not a dealer; this is a retirement sale as I have decided to downsize so I am willing to take the loss to move the car quickly and give you dealers a chance to make a profit this summer. I will gladly remove the sill plates and access panels in the bed to reveal the perfect floors and body; nothing to hide here. Car sold “as-is” with absolutely no guarantee of any kind. PA Antique plate is transferrable to PA buyer. and is the old style coveted “purple” plate.

Please understand that “Buy it Now” or an “Accepted Offer” is a contract to actually purchase the car. not to come and inspect or think about it. And yes. even offers from Richard Rawlings down at Gas Monkey Garage will be considered.

US buyers only. Prior approval by me required for overseas bidders.
