Porsche 911 SC Targa in Moss Green

2010 I bought the car from a Porsche dealer down south and the car drove really well but the paintwork and interior were looking a little tired. I had a full glass out respray and got the wheels refurbed. New green top tint windscreen with new window rubbers all round. New light rubbers. new bumper bellows. new bonnet and boot struts. new front chin spoiler brackets. new boot spoiler gaskets. new targa rubbers. New Porsche badges. new door handle rubbers & new side indicators. The car had been mechanically well maintained and thousands spent on it up to that point.

2011 I purchased a new carpet set from Lakewell and installed dynomat underneath. 964 seat belts were installed front and rear. Firewall matting was also replaced at the same time. The rear parcel shelf and quarter panels have been altered to accept the seat belts and re-trimmed in black leather. New speaker grilles were also installed. The front seats are Cobra Misano retrimmed by Southbound Trimmers in original Porsche Hounds Tooth material. Second hand back seats were bought and also retrimmed by Southbound to match. The steering wheel is a Momo Protipo with custom Porsche hornpush and matching billet aluminium gearknob. The plywood footboards were replaced with aluminium checker plate ones. I have all the original electric seats (seen in one of the pictures) along with the original steering wheel and gear knob and these willl come with the vehicle. The car also comes with both bootlids. 1 with whale tail and 1 without.

2012 Having completed all of the above I then moved onto the mechanicals. given the way the car drove and the fact it had an engine and gearbox rebuild at 88K. I thought it would be just a spit and polish. how wrong was I. I started with the easy bits. replaced the rear handbrake shoes. rebuilt the front brake calipers with new piston rubbers and dust caps. installed some Green Stuff pads. Dropped the front suspension by 15mm and installed a bump steer kit. replaced antiroll bar rubbers and 1 rear torsion bar cover that was corroded. Replaced the bushings in the gear linkage and installed a factory short shift kit - this was probably the most significant difference and the gear change is now really smooth.

I moved onto what I thought would be a routine service and drained the oil and took off the rocker covers. and out fell some of the cylinder head studs. If you go onto any of the forums this is one of the most common engine faults with the 3. 0 and 3. 2 litre 911's. The car was transported to Sports and Classic in Knutsford and the owner (Mike Bourke) suggested I leave the car with him for a few months. The invoice list is huge but some of the highlights are as follows:

All valve stems K-lined. all seats cut and ground New inlet and exhaust valves New cranksahft bearings. shaft bearing shells and replaced big end bearings New Francis Tuthill high lift cams installed - about a 20bhp increase New delivar 993 Turbo cylinder head studs top and bottom (do not buy a classic 911 wihout this being done) New inlet manifold and replacement airbox with popoff valve New clutch. flywheel. pressure plate. bearing and fork New plugs and filters New oil sender switch Wheel alignment and suspension set up Case and oily bits soda balsted and powdercoated New fan pulley

The engine and gearbox have had £7. 00 spent on them (invoices to prove) and the car now has absolutely no oil leaks and pulls like a train. Its taxed and mot'd until March 2014 and comes with full history. 2 keys. all old mots and huge file of receipts for work carried out.

Bad Bits The targa top has 2 tension clips that need replacing. I have already replaced one of the side rubbers but the whole top could do with a refurb as its in good condition but not mint. There are a few stone chips on the bonnet and a chip on the targa hoop. all just cosmetic.

The car can be viewed in Cheadle Hulme South Manchester any evening or weekend. Telephone 07850 476252
