I have for sale a 1971 Mercedes Benz 280SE W108. It has a 2. 8L 6 cylinder engine. I have been restoring this car (on and off) since 2002. I have done so much work over a long period of time it will be hard for me to remember everything done. The engine runs good and starts every time I want to start it (rarely needing more than 2 cranks). I work on it at my Machine shop and this is where it has been stored (inside) since 2002. I have driven it around on a regular basis (sometimes going more than a month between) with no issues other than the battery needing a charge. Washing it is the only time it gets wet. The reason I am selling it is because I don't have a garage at my house. instead having a large "sap" tree over the driveway. which would ruin the paint. I probably haven't put more than 500 miles since its been in my shop.
How about a video! https://youtu. be/evY6nmAPjkE

Here are some of the things I can remember being done.

Upper part of the engine being rebuilt.
New mechanical Fuel injection pump
New rear fuel pump
fuel delivery system as a whole has been gone through
master cylinder
Bosch Ignition coil
upper control arm assembly rebuilt both sides. Control Arm Bushing Kits
Front Sub frame Bushing mounts both sides
rear axle SUB FRAME BUSH MOUNT
all door seals
trunk seal
side light seals
new felt glass track channel
front windshield and rear glass seals

I have done extensive cosmetic work. leading up to a final paint job approximately 4 yrs ago.

Looking for rust. the Undercarriage. wheel-wells. rocker panels and trunk have been stripped of undercoating and/or paint all the way up to the engine. I had to remove things like gas tank. rear axle. fuel lines and so on. I fixed/repaired/replaced all rust spots in wheel-wells. trunk. The outer rocker panels were removed and replaced. I Repainted and re-undercoated the bottom of the car. heel-wells and trunk. I even spent months looking for fenders that were completely intact at the bottom where it bolts to the rocker panels. I addressed the inside of the car by removing the seats and everything else finally removing the carpet. All that was left was the dash. The whole process was meticulous and painstaking but no rust left except for a little here and there deep in the engine compartment as I never removed the engine.

This is a really nice car. and if you're looking to buy a Mercedes like this one. the last of this generation but have reservations/concerns for rust and so on. This would be a good one to consider. You're welcome and highly encouraged to make an appointment to inspect and test-drive. I have a lift in my shop available for inspection.     Note that when the pictures were taken. I had a Power steering hose burst (bottom of the reservoir cup). I replaced the hose a couple of days later.
