The Morgan eFSX

This vehicle is a product of the edelan company of Houston. Tx. Edelan is a custom design establishment that reflects a unique design philosophy – “Leveraging 21st century design. while maintaining traditional features. ”  Edelan's products. whether they be a harpsichord or an automobile reflect these ideals as well as applying a minimalist design direction to its products.

This vehicle started life as a 1971 Morgan +8. However. the finished product. in appearance and function. is much closer to later +8s. To differentiate this car from the 1969-89 factory models. we are calling it the Morgan eFSX.   This car represents the “modern” Morgan and without the various current restrictions of the Federal Government is much closer to current production models. Also. note that any new Morgan +8s (even with the loosening of import restrictions) will most likely not be available in the US for some time.

There were two objectives in building the car.   First. maintain the traditional spirit of Morgan's (which is what made us fall in love with them in the first place).   Second. update the car in every other way we determined to be appropriate. but without sacrificing the classical Morgan spirit. For example. while the engine/transmission/drivetrain remain as the original. items such as the suspension. electrical systems. dash. interior and safety features have been redesigned and/or upgraded to be more in line with typical 21st century specifications.

To fully document this vehicle two professional publications are available.   They are offered as PDFs in this listing so that you can assess what went into the car.   They are:

1.     Features and Specifications:  This document describes the whys and the wherefores of the car and it details the changes and upgrades that have been made.

2.     Owners Handbook. This document explains each of the new features in the car with diagrams for each feature.   It also provides a new overall wiring diagram. plus specific diagrams for each of the custom electrical functions.   As an example of a new function. the Seat Belt Warning LED on the dash indicates both that someone is in the seat and that the seat belt is fastened before it turns off (oh and yes. it is only operational if the car is running).

History:

The original car was listed by the Morgan factory as the 1971 Plus 8. #R7270. Golden Yellow with brown leather. Little is known of the first owner. only that it was originally sold through a dealer in England -Dangerfields - to a R. Bentley. It was next owned successfully by a Doctor in Corpus Christi. Tx and then to his brother. also a doctor. of El Paso. Tx. It was stored most of the time during this 18-20 years in a hanger (both brothers also being pilots).   The car was purchased by Tom Politiski of Richville. Mn. from whom I purchased it in November of 2013.   Because the vehicle spent a great deal of its life just waiting to be driven. it has only 38. 00 original miles.

Restoration and Upgrade:

It was determined from the beginning that this would not be a standard restoration process. The objectives. as previously stated. were to maintain the character of a Morgan. but reflect both changes made by Morgan Motors themselves and numerous other redesigns and upgrades as determined by the restores to be appropriate.   This was a bottom-up restoration process. where all parts of the car (except the engine and transmission) were completely disassembled. blasted. painted. etc.
