1987 (E) TVR S1 with a GENUINE reason for sale for sale
Current customer rating: (443 votes ) based onFor sale is my 1987 TVR S1 which is in excellent condition mechanically and drives like an absolute dream (a really scary dream when you are driving too fast in an over-the-top. noisy car)! I haven't owned the car for long but I have just accepted a job in the USA so unfortunately I have to say goodbye to her. which is frankly gutting as I have had so much fun in this car whilst I owned her.
For the last few years I have tried to work my way through my ‘bucket list' of classic cars to own. and earlier this year I decided a TVR S was next. I looked at a lot and decided very quickly that more than any other car I have owned. you get what you pay far. I started at the £3k end of the spectrum but realised that I would have to spend £5k+ for a good example. I was very lucky to find my car at the price I did locally. I was the first to view and pretty much purchased there and then. knowing that this was a lot better than other I had seen.
Mechanical
This is the 2. 8L V6 Ford Cologne engine. the engine from the Ford Capri. This means that this is a successful. German-built engine that any garage can work on; no specialist knowledge is required which was important to me in choosing a TVR. Under the bonnet is where the money has been spent on this car and it drives perfectly. i. e. very fast and very noisily! There is a ‘straight through' exhaust that sounds spectacular and ensures that the car turns heads wherever it goes. The car doesn't leak at all and uses very little oil and water. it always starts and is always ready to run. I take it to work every 2 weeks at least (40 miles) so it gets a good run. otherwise it is only really used at weekends for a bit of fun. I have had one issue with the TVR in the time I have owned it. predictably electrical! A relay failed so the fuel pump stopped working. but this was very quickly fixed at a local garage. I asked the garage to have a thorough look over the car and see if there were any other issues at all and all they found was a little problem with the rear lights (again. electrical!) and this was also sorted. So. no known problems whatsoever. from a very trustworthy garage with a very good reputation locally.
Body
Condition is very good and I love the colour. unusual for a TVR S. it looks fantastic. The bonnet was re-sprayed by the previous owner not long before I purchased it so this is perfect. there are a few minor surface scratches in places but not at all obvious. and much better than your average TVR. The hood is a little bit scruffy and if I was keeping the car I would replace this in a year or so. however the car is only used during nice weather so the hood is only used in an emergency. For 99% of the time the hood is down and stowed away. I have the original ‘bag' for the roof panels. this is nearly always missing. The car is always kept covered on my drive; the fitted car cover is included with the car.
Interior
When I looked for a TVR S the thing that became apparent very quickly was that the interior does not wear very well at all. My example was the best by a long way. but is not perfect. The leather dash is in very good condition with just a few minor marks. However the leather is rubbing off the seats (very common) so ideally this needs attention. however structurally the seats are fine; it is just the surface layer of leather. The seats are the first thing I would improve if I was to keep the TVR. as these don't quite match the quality of the rest of the interior. The carpets are a little faded but are in good condition with no obvious problems whatsoever. again much better than other cars I looked at.
History
There is some history with the car. The usual tax discs. mechanical bills and some original TVR documentation. Certainly not comprehensive but some interesting bits and bobs. There are a few spares that I will include in the sale too. and a Ford Capri Haynes manual that matches the engine.
As I said. I will be desperately sorry to say goodbye to this car. as it never fails to put a smile on my face. it is just so much fun to drive. I like the fact that it looks and feels like an old-school classic British roadster… but one with GREAT performance and an AMAZING soundtrack. £5. 50 ONO.
I've tried to be as accurate and honest with this description as possible but can't include everything so please feel free to ask a question and I'll answer as best I can; no time wasters or tyre kickers please! You are welcome to take the TVR for a test drive. but you will have to prove that you are insured to do so first. I'm sure you'll appreciate that I need to insist on this. Thanks for reading!
PLEASE NOTE… I AM ON HOLIDAY UNTIL SATURDAY 24TH AUGUST SO WON'T BE AVAILABLE TO ORGANISE VIEWINGS UNTIL THEN. I JUST WANTED TO GET THE CAR ADVERSTISED ASAP AS I WANT TO SELL QUICKLY. I'LL ALSO ADD MORE PICTURES ON MY RETURN.

Hi
Would you be able to send across more pictures if possible? Would love to take it for a test drive but I’m in Northern Ireland so if I’m to come over I want to come over knowing I’m buying it. But need to check a few other things first with insurance etc before I make a decision. Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Josh
