Important landmarks in the 911's evolution included moving the
rear wheels back with arrival of the B-series 911 in August 1968
improving weight distribution and handling. The performance E and S
models receiving Bosch high-pressure mechanical fuel injection
greatly increased engine flexibility and power. Capacity had
gradually crept up from 2 litres to 2. 2. 2. 4 and then 2. 7 litres
for the best-loved of all the 'small-bumper' 911 s. the lightweight
Carrera 2. 7 RS (for Rennsport. or racing). whose 210 bhp output
could propel the car to 150 mph. Even more potent were the factory
developments of the RS. the 2. 8 and 3. 0 RSR with more than 300 bhp
on tap. This RSR recreation started out as a 1975 911. 2. 7 litre
example. very low mileage and very genuine.
It is currently fitted with a much stronger and rebuilt. 3. 2
litre Carrera engine from the late 1980 s coupled to a bulletproof
915 five-speed gearbox with oil cooler. It is reported to run
beautifully along with silky smooth gear changes. The suspension
has all been checked and serviced with the geometry set up to fast
road configuration. The body has been fully rebuilt and converted
using genuine steel arches and wings as well as fully re-sprayed in
the correct Grand Prix White contrasting nicely with the Mexico
blue Carrera RS decals and fitted alongside a single Durant mirror.
The underside is completely rust free and has been fully sealed and
Waxoiled. The front and rear bumpers are period 1974 lightweight
GRP units along with a period 1973 ducktail spoiler. It sits on a
set of 7 x 16 and 9 x 16 Fuchs alloy wheels correctly spaced to fill
the arches perfectly and. again. highlighted in Porsche Mexico
blue.
The interior is all correctly backdated and tastefully re-fitted
with the correct style RS front seats a Momo Prototipo steering
wheel and lightweight door panels whilst retaining the electric
windows for convenience. With just two owners recorded within the
last 31 years. a verifiable mileage of just 48. 00 and a full one
year Mo T test certificate. this represents a well considered and
extremely well presented 911 RSR benefiting from the understated
design that makes these 1970's example so desirable.
