Probably the earliest know example of a convertible XJ was a
series I specially prepared for Queen Elizabeth II's visit to
Mauritius in 1972. apparently it was converted out in Mauritius.
Cabriolet International. based in Blackpool. followed the same four
door theme but to a far superior design. Starting with a Jaguar XJ 6
Series II or Series III saloon they cut the steel from the roof. br/>leaving around three inches of the original roof in place around
the door frames and windscreen. They then fitted a cross beam
between the two 'B' pillars. this created a very strong structure
for a four door car and also meant when the roof was closed it was
hardly distinguishable from a standard saloon from a distance. When
the hood is open the occupants experienced open top comfort but
within the virtual safety of the normal saloon. Cabriolet
International's hood mechanism had quite an advantage over some of
the other coachbuilders converting Jaguar XJ 6's that when the hood
is open it laid flat on the rear parcel shelf so not obscuring the
rear view as much as some conversions.
This long wheel base XJ 6 Series III was made into a convertible in
the late 1980's by Cabriolet International Ltd. The previous owner
purchased the car in 1996 when it had completed 74. 45 miles the
Jaguar was repainted in white to be used as a wedding car. The
vendor purchased the car at the beginning of 2012 and has used the
car for a couple of weddings and a couple of Jaguar Car Club
rallies. in the last seventeen years the car has covered a total of
3. 55 miles. In the last twelve months the owner has had the air
conditioning system and radiator overhauled. This Jaguar XJ 6 4. 2
Series III Convertible is supplied with V 5 C registration document. br/>an Mo T test certificate which expires in June 2014. a road fund tax
disc which expires May 2014. previous Mo T test certificates going
back to 1996 which verify the mileage and invoices back to 2011.
This unusual Jaguar convertible is an ideal car giving the benefit
of open air motoring with the luxury of the Jaguar XJ 6 saloon.
