For sale in our Chicago showroom is a classic 1949 Mercury Eight.

The Mercury line of vehicles was intended to bridge the gap between the Ford V 8 and the Lincoln line of vehicles and by 1949 chose the same body style of the Lincoln but with different headlights and front grill and that style became an icon of American hot rods of the time.

In the movie Rebel without a cause the great James Dean drove a 1949 Mercury sedan and many of these fell into the hands of hot-rodders who chopped the tops and added lake pipes and large V 8 engines.

This example has been kept in the original state and has received much love and TLC over the years and is now a very nice running and driving classic that has room for the whole family.

In addition to the smooth running flathead V 8 and 3-speed transmission with overdrive this Mercury has a variety of interesting and unusual options that are not often seen.

From the exterior you will notice the addition of Unity fog lights. Mercury-labeled Unity spotlight. "Breezie" vent window wind deflectors. Fulton Visor. reverse lights. stainless gas door guard. Mercury exhaust deflector and passing-eye mirror. On the interior you will notice that optional equipment has also been added such as a working Liberty fan. Sears Allstate swamp cooler. Guide Rite compass. Hull compass. AM radio and center mounted dash clock.
