Fiat 500L Classic ‘Abarth Replica' 1971 - LHD – Fully Restored & Concours!

This highly desirable 1971 model underwent a painstaking nut & bolt restoration to concours standards. 4 years ago in Holland by a club specialist for his own enjoyment. The car was prepared as an Abarth replica for club rally activity & thus to be driven & enjoyed. It has a new Fiat 650cc engine fitted which is mated to a new Fiat syncro gear box and disc brakes! This is without doubt the quickest & most modern driving 500 we have ever offered. It is not only capable of long motorway journeys but also feels more like a modern car than another 500 I have driven or owned!  

It's an original LHD example that has only had a hand full of owners from new & was manufactured on 23rd October 1971 at the Fiat factory in Italy. where it stayed until 10th February 1995 before being exported to its new owner. a collector in the Netherlands. The vehicle was used sparingly & then purchased by a Fiat owners club member in 2008. when a full nut & bolt restoration commenced to show standards. Every part of the vehicle was either replaced. reconditioned or upgraded on a no expense spared basis. We could not replicate this vehicle for the asking price. This vehicle looks as good. if not better underneath as it does on top and is the best detailed 500 we have ever seen. The complete restoration process was captured by way of around 75 pictures which show every detail of the restoration & are held in the history file. This exceptional vehicle stayed in the Netherlands until April this year when we purchased it from our Dutch classic car partner & brought it to our shores & obtained full UK registration.

The full pain staking nut & bolt restoration to concours standard in 2008/9 included: Complete strip to bare metal shell. the structure & floors were found to be excellent & only minimal new metal was let in. The original interior was replaced in it entirety with an Abarth style interior. The engine was removed & replaced with a brand new more usable Fiat 650cc unit (Unleaded). along with a new Fait syncro box & quality sports exhaust system. A disc brake conversion was also undertaking using quality parts. The clutch. steering. springs. bushes. struts. starter motor. along with all mechanical parts were replaced or completely refurbished. span >  all pedals were changed. the petrol tank was replaced. the complete door card set & interior trim was replaced. including the underside roof panel & sunshine roof. a new carpet set and all other items of interior trim were replaced. The lights were replaced front and rear. all new rubbers & window rubbers fitted. all new glazing fitted. front windscreen. rear window. side windows etc. bumpers & brackets were all replaced along with the new overrider bars fitted. new wing mirrors fitted. new badges. fully shot blasted & refurbished original Fiat wider sports steel wheels were fitted. new correct matching tyres. span >  it also received a full rewire including the loom using new genuine parts. The car was fully painted at this time in the original shade of Fiat Rosso Corsa that you see today. This includes the shell complete inside & out. No corner was left not professionally painted. This includes the underside which is also fully painted & body coloured. with all underside parts also fully painted to show standards.  In fact it looks as good underneath as it does on the top!

The car looks brand new and is no doubt better than when it left the factory in 1971 & is certainly a lot quicker & more reliable! Its probably one of the best examples in the UK. if not Europe. has been correctly restored by people who know the marquee & comprehensively upgraded to look like an Abarth. This is a collectors opportunity and a superb investment and has only driven less than 1000 miles since its full restoration & hence this cheeky chappy is now UK registered. MOT'd & being offered for sale!

We have further enhanced this example by fitting new chrome wiper blades. fitted various minor bits of trim. new rubber bonnet front pad. new grommet & front bonnet seal set.  new chrome number plate light fitment. original tool kit. fitted new period number plates with correct number plate surround. adjusted the steering geometry. fitted a new period tax disc holder & Fiat key ring. Supplied a fresh MOT and conducted a multipoint check and given the cheeky little chap a full service just to be sure! The car is on the button. quick. very reliable & ready to go…
