Mercedes Benz 190SL SL Coupe with soft top California title for sale
Current customer rating:
Up for sale in My Mother's 1958 Mercedes Benz 190 SL Coupe.
It has been in the family since 1959. Please see her description below.
The car is in good running condition. however it needs some brake work to be drivable (please see video below).
The car is in nearly unrestored condition.
The only restoration done was an older paint job in the original color. the driver and passenger seats have been reupholstered. the carpet was replaced. and there has been some welding done to the floor pans.
All restoration work was done sometime in the 1980's.
**note: the paint is not in great condition and there is some rust on the under carriage.
Please
Overall the car is in very complete condition with all original body panels. chrome. bumpers. trim. hard and soft tops. original radio (working). and original Mercedes tool-roll.
Car has California title and blue license plates.
My Mother's Account of the History:
"I'm quite sure the car is a 1957 and I insured it as a 1957 model with American Collectors Insurance in the past.
Maybe the tag number could verify
the age.
I found one site that listed changes by year.
Apparently. the
glass on the rear directional signals was amber thru 1957.
After that it was
red.
On the rear right side the glass is amber.
On the left side it must have been replaced since it is red.
The car was never in an accident.
However. I did slide on a piece of ice and very slowly bump into a tree…enough to bend the front bumper.
The
bumper was straightened out but never replaced.
My father bought the car in 1959 from a dealer in New York City.
I'm not sure that it came from the dealer that is stamped on the flyer. That could be where the car was originally purchased by the Duponts when it was
new.
We lived in New Jersey at the time and My father used it to commute to NYC.
I learned how to drive on that car when I was 16 and eventually. by my junior year in high school. it became my car and I drove it to
school.
Dad had developed arthritis in his knee and didn't want to drive a car with stick shift.
The car has been in the family since 1959 in New Jersey.
From the 70's thru 1998 it was with my sister in California.
I've had it in the Seattle area
since 1998.
It has been stored in the garage since then and hasn't been
driven.
Along the way. it was kept in running order and serviced as needed.
It was repainted in the original blue color. the floor carpet was replaced and the
seats were reupholstered in naughahyde.
The soft top canvas was
replaced on the original frame.
All the handles and knobs are original.
The
Blaupunkt radio is original and works. "
**Please note that the car was manufactured in Germany in 1957. Since it was shipped to the U. S. in September. it takes on the model year of 1958.
