1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda Barracuda 70 Dodge Challenger T/A TA 71 72 73 Mopar REAL for sale
Current customer rating:
This is a long story. so grab a beer and have a long read.
This was my high school car.
I was forced to sell it when I was 24. bought it back 24 years later. and am now selling it again.
Here's the story I posted on forebodiesonly when I bought it back last year.
forebodiesonly. com/forum/showthread. php?5457-Amazing-AAR-reunion&highlight=reunion
I regretted selling it for 24 years and when I had the chance to buy it back last summer. I jumped on it. The reality is that I couldn't really afford to drop that kind of dough on another project.
I have some amazing cars ~ '33 Chrysler convertible. '48 Plymouth coupe. two '28 Dodge roadsters ( www. fastfourspecial. com ). '56 Fury. '62 Max Wedge Belvedere. '67 Hemi 4 speed GTX. '64 Sport Fury convertible. '50 Dodge Sportabout roadster. blah. blah. blah.
But like an old girlfriend who you remember to be much better than she really was. so it goes with the AAR.
I guess I'm just not into the muscle car stuff like I was when I was 24 years old. and haven't found the motivation to dive into another project.
So. onto the auction block.
When I bought it back last year. the car had sat for 24 years.
I prelubed the motor. changed all of the fluids. replaced every single brake component (drums. discs. seals. bearings. calipers. wheel and master cylinders. etc. ). replaced all worn suspension components. had the car aligned. put four new BFG T/A radials on four brand new 15 X 8 rallyes. a new 2. 5" exhaust system with flowmasters (I did not reuse the side exhausts because I never cared for them. but I did save the tips and hangers). new fuel pump. cleaned the tank. etc.
Some of the stuff on the car is still pretty amateur.
I'm glad to say that I've gotten a lot more anal as a mechanic in the past 25 years!
The motor is a '69 340 with a solid lifter cam that I had built 28 years ago when I was 22 (holy crap time flies).
It still runs STRONG. has good oil pressure and compression. and does not smoke at all. either at startup or while running.
The Carter AFB could use a rebuild (weak accelerator pump).
I do have a complete 70 T/A motor with the correct heads. crank. intake. carbs. aircleaner. etc .
It is not the original #s motor for the car.
I assume it's a warranty replacement block as the vin pad is blank.
It has been disassembled and tanked.
The block needed one sleeve which has been completed.
Motor will go +. 030.
Crank is perfect.
The 727 auto tranny works as it should but I put a shift kit in it when I was a kid and it shifts very firm.
He kickdown mechanism is also disconnected which contributes to the tire chirping shifts.
Very cool when you are 24.
I was going to convert it to a four speed. so I have all of the components to do so ~ pedals. bellhousing. A 833. pistol grip. rods and linkages. 4 speed tranny tunnel. etc.
Rear is the original 8 3/4 3. 55 suregrip.
The car runs and drives nicely.
I've probably only put 200 miles on it. but I THINK you could drive it back to your home.
The body ~
NEEDS the following ~ Trunk floor (was partially cut out years ago). lower rear quarters. small patch on drivers floor (new AMD panel included with purchase).
BORDERLINE ~ Blisters and scaling on lip of trunk lid. very small typical rust bubbles at hood hinges. on inner fenders blisters under vinyl top (nothing alarming though). small rust areas on front fenders under hood (see photos). hood has been repaired in the past and is usable. but will need love.
Dents on RF fender. RT door
NICE ~ Rockers are VERY nice. floors (except driver's heel) are perfect. cowl is perfect. doors are rust-free.
Trunk lip good.
Glass is good. all regulators work.
Sloppy weatherstrip job on windshield.
All gauges work.
Eight track player works.
Lights and brake lights work.
Runs and drives well.
Doors open and close well.
Excellent non-pitted original data and TRANS AM tags.
INTERIOR ~ Headliner is intact but has a rip in a seam.
A brand new one is included with the sale.
Seats are rip-free and presentable.
I removed the carpet to inspect the floors and get rid of odor.
Console is in good shape.
Slapstick is in good shape.
The car has an A/C dash pad that I pulled out of junkyard in 1987.
It has a couple of small cracks. but obviously. an AC pad is not correct for the car.
Rim blow horn works. a couple cracks in the wheel.
Door panels in good shape.
Rallye dash in good shape.
Original owners manual.
This auction is for the car. the complete 4 speed set up. and the TA motor with all of the fixin's.
I have a clear Montana title in my name. as well as a copy of the Indiana title from when I sold it in 1988.
I unfortunately do not have a build sheet.
Call me and ask lots of questions.
I will answer them perfectly honestly.
I do not NEED to sell this car.
I will not give it away for less than it's worth.
I will not sell the TA motor or 4 speed setup separately unless the buyer does not want them. at which point we can negotiate a credit.
I will consider keeping the '69 340 that's in the car if the buyer does not want it as well.
We can negotiate a credit on that as well.
Car is well optioned~
