1972 HURST / OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS - INCREDIBLE Frame off Restoration! for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 424 votes
MUST SELL (says the wife. who is listing this under her account as she did my '68 442 I sold a year ago) this gorgeous. fully frame-off rotisserie restored collector's car!! Has been pampered in a climate controlled (air conditioning and heat) garage year round. and is a rare. beautiful muscle car you would be very proud to own & drive.   I take it out on nice Sundays from March thru October to get the car up to temp. clean it up when I bring it back home and put it away covered.

The 1972 Hurst/Olds pace car was actually developed by Hurst Performance. and not Oldsmobile. Due to a tragic accident involving the 1971 Indy Pace car. which was a Dodge Challenger. the major auto manufacturers were reluctant to provide the pace car for the 1972 Indy race. Hurst Performance stepped up and volunteered to sponsor the 1972 pace car. Oldsmobile provided the Cutlass Supreme coupe and convertible. and the rest is history. It was the first and only time. an Indy Pace car was sponsored by a manufacturer other than an automobile manufacturer. and first time to include a major supplier's name in the title. There were a total of 629 made; 130 Convertibles. 220 hardtop with sunroof. and 279 hardtop cars. The only color available was Cameo White with reflective 3M gold stripes that were stickers. not paint. The standard Hurst/Olds engine was a 455cid Rocket V8 rated at 270hp mated to a Turbo Hydra-matic 400 transmission with console-mounted Hurst Dual-Gate shifter.

This 1972 Hurst/Olds coupe offered has 49. 52 original miles with all matching numbers and 1 of 279 cars produced in hardtop. I purchased it from the second owner in winter 1999 with 38K miles on it at the time. Originated in Florida. This car was rotisserie frame-off restored by Thornton Autoworks in Telford. PA in Summer '09. Everything was either replaced with perfect reproductions. NOS or bead blasted and restored.   Interior is new (door panels. seats. head liner and hat shelf).   The dash and center console are original and pretty close to mint.   The rear view mirror and seat belts (see photo with "6E72" label on them) was purposely left original as a reminder of all that was done to the car.   It's just stunning. Paint and all the work done is simply perfect. Thornton who restore it (Google them) specializes in Olds and just sold at Barrett-Jackson in January '13. see link. (http://www. barrett-jackson. com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails. aspx?ln=1314&aid=466) the record setting price paid for a 442: $357. 00! Their work is that good!   Features the original 455cid engine which was rebuilt. balanced and blueprinted. a Turbo 400 automatic transmission. Hurst "Dual Gate" shifter and perfect interior. Protect-o-plate. Stored and pampered in a heated & air conditioned garage. This car is a pleasure to drive. Car has been driven less than 600 miles since the full restoration. 3rd owner. As new. There is nothing it needs to be shown or driven on ocassion. A rare car that someone (me) put big dollars into to bring back to it's glory of 1972 knowing all along I wouldn't get out of it what I put into it.   That's a car guy.

Receipts totaling much more. ($80K+) Asking a reasonable price but will entertain offers. . More photos available. For serious inquiries. please contact Paul at (215)262-7770.   Thanks for looking.   Car is available for sell elsewhere on line and may be withdrawn without notice.
