DESCRIPTION

The new Duesenberg Model J model was introduced at the New York Auto Salon in December of 1928 after 21 months of development from the Duesenburg brothers. It was quickly recognized as the most elegant and powerful car ever offered to the public! With 6 more months of tweaking and engineering to ensure their greatest possible quality. the first Model J was delivered in May of 1929. Each of the chassis' and powerful engines were sent to various. private coachbuilders to sculpt a number of beautiful designs! Each of these limited built cars were handcrafted to the highest quality and delivered to your not-so-average automobile owners. They were likely the most elite of businessmen. Hollywood fame. decedents of wealth. or royalty of the World! A Duesenburg was defined as a symbol of wealth. power. and the ultimate in available performance! So you can imagine that most were tailor made to be unique to their owners. and with future owners wishing to personalize them as they traded hands as years passed by. The most celebrated and rare examples of the Duesenburg were restored. which meant some of the "lesser" examples were parted out in a quest for original equipment and parts. This usually meant Coach built bodies. engines. and chassis' were separated and re-mated in a variety of forms to continue to meet new owner requirements. One of the better known of these coach builders was the Rosemount. Pennsylvania based Derham Body Company. They primarily built formal town cars and limousines for their wealthy East coast clientele. but did offer a gorgeously designed Derham Tourster! This open car design featured a perfectly raked windscreen and folding convertible top. rear cowl with wind up windshield. striking molding and body side trim resulting in one of the most desirable and rare Deusenburgs today!

This long wheelbase 1932 Duesenburg Model J featured here carries a Derham Tourster replica body. believed to have been one of several constructed by Ted Billings. Built in aluminum to a very high standard. these bodies are nearly indistinguishable from an original. and with a finished result this first rate. are often mistaken for one! Based on an original 153. 5" long wheelbase Duesenburg chassis that originated under a Willoughby Berline. along with a bellhousing originally from a Duesenburg Murphy Convertible Sedan. and a firewall from a Rollston Cabriolet. it was skillfully reconstructed by Mr. Billings with the same pride as any coach builder from 1932 to become the masterpiece you see today!

It has already been recognized by some of the world's elite collectors and museum ever since! Known ownership history include the Behring Auto Museum. Jarry J. Moore. Charles Cawley of MBNA. and the John O'Quinn collection. Having just 3 owners over the past 12 years. its gorgeous presence has never gone unrecognized!

Features include the original Duesenburg 420 ci 4 valve per cylinder with twin overhead camshaft Inline 8 cylinder that produced an incredible 265 horsepower! Mated to a 3-speed transmission. front beam axle. live rear axle. and Duesenburg unique vacuum-assisted 4-wheel hydraulic brakes! Accessories include dual Pilot Ray lights. dual side mounts with hardcovers. stunning 19" chrome wheels. wind wings. and a leather trunk with dual rear "STOP" taillights! It is understood that less than 485 Model J examples ever existed. and owning one today is no less a privilege than ever before. This is a unique opportunity to own a real Duesenburg at small fraction of its perceived value. An original Derham Tourster would be estimated at a near $2 million acquisition today. making this example with original Duesenburg components poised to be purchased at a very reasonable price point! Please feel free to call with any questions. SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY PLEASE!
