fiat 131 mirafiori sport , the ford escort slayer

1980 fiat 131 mirafiori sport / racing . chassis number zfa 131 a 0000684*** located in northern ireland bt 66 postcode . this rare black and gold edition car is probably the best unrestored rhd model in the uk . the car was wax / rust proofed with dinitrol from new . the underside is like new . not a weld mark anywhere on her . every panel is rust free . inside the doors are like new and coated with rustproofing wax . the supercharged version of this 2 litre twin cam engined car ( the abarth ) won the world rally championships in 1978 . 1979 and 1981 . this was the era of the mk 2 escort so to out-do ford in 3 years of the escort reign is a major achievement which didn't get enough press by rallying pundits at the time . these cars rusted badly in the early years due to not being painted on the inner sides of the panels and hidden recesses . this rare survivor is in beautiful condition . the black / gold colour scheme has a matching brown/ gold interior with gold coloured seatbelts . and matching doorcards and headcloth . the headcloth in the 131 commonly sags and pulls away from the roof section with age when the glue dries out . the headcloth was removed some years ago to have it re-glued and was never put back in . the inner roof and pillars are all coated in dinitrol as well . the headcloth and roof lining unit go with the car . the engine was stripped and rebuilt a while back by L. R. S. motorsport N. I. and a mild road cam was fitted along with new main bearings . piston rings . gaskets . timing belt . thermostat etc. . she is running on a pair of twin 40 dellorto carbs with a facet electric fuel pump and regulator in the boot . the 13 inch minilite rims were powder coated and fitted with 4 new tyres a year ago but have seen no more than 50 miles of driving since . the front rims will need balanced as there is a slight shake at high speed .

there is a slight bit of play in the nearside track rod end since the mot test last year where the shaker plate to test the bushes and steering seems to do a years worth of driving wear in 10 minutes flat . i have a new track rod end in the boot but never got round to fitting it as usual . spares in the boot include front and rear brake pads and shoes and wheel cylinders that i have gathered up over the years but never needed . the speedo cable needs connected up when i find it as it was misled when the engine was removed to be rebuilt . i will have a look for it this week . the radiator was re-cored recently and new top suspension mounts fitted as well as shocks . the original fiam fiat horn is in boot for those who want the original parts fitted . the headlights have shown their age a little with the reflectors peeling but i will throw in 4 new lights for her as i have them in the fiat boxes in the shed and have no need for them . the car has been sat in my shed a few years now not being out much due to wet weather or lack of time . it is a waste of a nice car so its time for someone else to enjoy her .

overall a nice condition car and very rare in rhd in this superb condition . she needs polished as dusty but there is a lovely shine off her when she is outside in the rare sunlight . viewing welcome from this thursday onwards only due to my work schedule . the car is taxed . insured and mot'd until december 2016 . with the track rod end fitted she will pass without any problem . i can help arrange shipping to uk mainland by car transporter company . i can get you a quote if you send me your postcode . i am 40 mins away from belfast international airport . the numberplate will go with the car unless it sells to southern ireland where the plate will be lost on the system . in that case i will remove it and keep it on a retention certificate for another of my cars . preferred cash on collection but otherwise cleared funds by whatever means suits you before i release her . i won't reveal the reserve price so no point in asking me . i will let the auction run so no buy it now price . any sensible questions will be answered via ebay messages . i will try and respond as quickly as possible but i don't be at the computer every day . plenty more photos of the car other than the 12 that ebay allow . any non paying bidder will be reported to ebay and pursued for the relisting fees incurred . please don't bid if you haven't the funds to pay for the car . thanks for looking . regards gerry
