Originally owned by the late Reverend of Christchurch Dorset. 1969-1895. The second owner also from Christchurch owned the car from 1985-1992. I purchased the Beetle in April 1992 from Friars Cliff Garage. although in good running order she had signs of rust in the usual places; spare wheel well and the rear chassis. After many years running the VW dealership in Christchurch i had recently moved to the west country also running two VW dealerships. Once back at the dealership the Beetle underwent a full restoration.

The Interior. engine. gearbox and suspension were removed. the body was then sent to the bodyshop where it was split and the rust removed and new metal welded in place. the body then was remounted to the chassis and the whole body resprayed. new wings were then sprayed and fitted. The suspension and gearbox were refitted but not the interior or engine.  The engine (original as fitted today No1519061 was stripped and overhauled. fitted with new bearings throughout. new pistons and barrels. overhauled cylinderheads. However the engine and interior were never refitted as she remained in dry storage until 2011.

In 2011 the engine was refitted and the interior put back in and was Mot'd on the 10th Nov 2011. however 19 years of dry storage had taken their toll and i decided to dismantle her again. all the brakes and hydraulics re overhauled. a new carburetter was fitted and the original floor matting which was in a poor state replaced with carpet. a pair of new high quality bumpers were also fitted. She was re MOT'd January this year and passed without an advisory! she has now completed 250 miles (total of 300) since the engine was rebuilt and drives exceptionally well given her age.

In less than six years time she will be 50 years old and a rare example of an original Beetle. The car deserves to be looked after and cared for by an appreciative owner. although mechanically very sound a few trimming jobs would finish her off. her value will only appreciate in the coming years as it it very hard to find such an early example still original and with its original factory fitted engine.

The car has recently been valued by the Beetle Owners Club for insuarnce purposes in th region of £5000 - £5500. which is still less than it has cost over the years to buy and restore!
