1967 Chevrolet Corvette for sale
Current customer rating:
L 71/L 88 Dual drivetrain. body –off restored to NCRS standards.
The vehicle was originally purchased with the L 71/435 hp engine through Earl Davis Chevrolet in Mansfield . Ohio and delivered on Feb. 3. 1967. The original owner was not 21 at the time and the vehicle had to be ordered in the name of his mother which is reflected on the original Protect-O-Plate. The interesting fact is that the original owner wanted to order the vehicle as an L 88 but was deterred by the heater delete option. The following are the original options per the tank sticker:
Goodwood Green with green vinyl interior
L 71 427/435 Hp
Vin: S 108842
K 66 Transistor Ignition
G 81 Positraction axle with 3. 70 ratio
M 21 4-Speed Close Ratio
QB 1 7. 75 x 15 Red Line Tires
N 14 Side Mount Exhaust
U 69 AM/FM PB Radio
This vehicle remained in Mansfield. changing owners several times. until purchased in 1997 and shipped to the Detroit area. After minor refurbishing of the car and driving for the next 2 years it was decided to do a complete body off restoration. The primary objective of the restoration was to rebuild according to the 1967 NCRS Information and Judging Guide Version #3 but with the intent of driving the vehicle when completed. During the rebuild it was decided to revise the vehicle content to that of an original L 88 vehicle with the ability to return the vehicle to Factory original condition.
The conversion centered around finding an original L 88 crate motor purchased in St Louis and used exclusively in a drag car for many years in that area. The short block survived and was purchased from the original owner's estate and remained in storage in St Louis for many years until purchased in January. 2000. Tonawanda Engine Plant records indicate there were (257) L 88 engines built for over the counter sales or “special” applications.
