Current customer rating:
It's with great sadness that I list this beautiful 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon Adventurewagen.
For the last 7 weeks I've been preparing the van to live and tour in. but as my deadline for leaving is fast approaching. I am realizing that it isn't ready for such a big adventure. I currently use it as my daily driver and have put 1800 miles on it since purchasing it in late July. She goes and goes every day and is an absolute blast to drive and brightens pretty much everyone's day. I am. however. a novice when it comes to mechanics and have struggled to find (and can't pay) someone who really knows these vans in and out. It has its quirks and I think it would benefit from having an owner with more than just good will and a thirst for adventure. Someone with a thicker wallet or who knows these vans would have a great time making the final tweaks to make it a reliable road warrior.
I do not have service records from previous owners. but I have a folder full of them since I have taken over. Here's what I know:
She's got the 1. 9 L water-cooled engine with plenty of life left in it. 4-speed manual transmission is quirky (as I hear they all are) but she takes all the gears. Good power (I mean. for a stock Vanagon). No leaks on the shell. Absolutely NO RUST. Adventurewagen wooden cabinets and fold-down rear seat that makes a full-size bed. Storage bay above front seats and sliding rack turns into space for an additional bed up top. Power box on the exterior for running electricity inside. All windows work properly.
Recent repairs and upgrades include the following:
- 15" VW wheels with top of the line spacers and lugs and bolts from T 3 Technique. Four brand new tires. These are a significant upgrade to the original 14" wheels (which I still have).
- New Alternator. O 2 sensor. Temp 2 sensor. Fuel filter. V-belt. Brake master cylinder and switches. Front brakes. Driver's side ball joint. Fuel tank reseal kit. Oil change with new filter. Auxiliary cable into an after-market stereo. INSPECTED through August 2017
-Lovely custom-made curtains on all windows
Previous owner did the following work:
-Spark plugs. Wires. Distributor cap. Rotor button. Ignition coil. 4 fuel injectors. Water pump. Starter. Rear shocks. Clutch master cylinder. 2 of the 4 fuel lines
-He had her for 3 years and put about 900 miles on during that time. I think he got most of his enjoyment out of the tinkering.
