1965 Humber Super Snipe Station Wagon - Series V

For sale. nbsp;rare. nbsp;solid and mechanically excellent Humber Super Snipe estate.

I restored this Super Snipe about 10 years ago as a historic tow/support vehicle for my Sunbeam Rapier and Sunbeam Alpine race cars. The car was selected as a display vehicle for the St Mary's Trophy paddock at the Goodwood Revival event in both 2010 & 2014. I have always kept it dry stored.

During the original restoration process the Humber benefited from the following treatment:

Engine - Cylinder re-bore & hone. new pistons and piston rings. crankshaft regrind. nbsp;new connecting rod. nbsp;main and thrust bearings fitted. New inlet and exhaust valves. nbsp;valve seats and valve guides were fitted to ensure the engine will run without problems on unleaded fuel. All new gaskets and oil seals.

The twin Stromberg Carburetors were sent to specialist for full strip down and reconditioning with new parts as required.

Water pump fully overhauled with new shaft. nbsp;bearing and seals. the cooling radiator was rebuilt with a new core.

The distributor was reconditioned and the car is fitted with electronic ignition.

The power steering pump and actuator ram units were reconditioned.

Clutch slave cylinder overhauled. new clutch cover plate. nbsp;centre plate and release bearing fitted.

The gearbox works as it should. it is a manual box with 3 forward gears and electrically operated overdrive unit providing a top gear for cruising.

Brake master cylinder and Powerstop Brake Servo unit were overhauled.

Front brake calipers reconditioned. nbsp;front brakes reassembled with new discs and brake pads.

Rear brake overhaul including wheel cylinders relined brakes shoes and copper brake pipes on rear axle.

Converted to Negative Earth and a new alternator and battery fitted.

The car has covered less than 5. 00 miles since the mechanical restoration work was completed.

The interior of the car is totally original. nbsp;nicely appointed and comfortable. nbsp;the rear seats. tray tables. door cards. carpet. headlining and dashboard are in nice condition for the age of the vehicle. The front bench seat (see photos) and glove box are a bit shabby and worn. nbsp;the chrome on the bumpers. nbsp;front grille and rear number plate mounting is dull and has some pitting. The car is still very cool and presentable. nbsp;I did not set out to build a show car I wanted to replicate a nicely aged and period looking "Works Support/Tow Vehicle".

As illustrated in the photos. I have removed the rear quarter windows and replaced them with alloy paneling. This paneling is held in place with seam sealer. The original rear windows and window rubbers come with the car so if you wanted to revert back the standard Super Snipe Estate configuration it is possible cut the seam sealer then remove the alloy panels to allow fitment of the glass windows.

To make the car more stable when towing I had the original Humber wheels professionally cut. widened and laser welded and fitted oversized 4 x 4 tyres. this modification improved the drivability of the car on long motorway runs.

The two-section. nbsp;rear tailgate cable assist mechanism intact and works.

A robust and 'period correct' tow bar is fitted to the car.

The original car radio remains in place under the dashboard for the correct 'period look' while a modern AM/FM/CD player with iPhone interface is hidden inside the glove box.

Rust repair to lower rear sections of front wings. other minor cosmetic bodywork and rust treatment as needed. fully primer coated and prepared for professional application of two-tone paintwork.

Other things to note. road tax free. cheap classic car insurance. car is sold with 12-Months MOT.

The car is located in Petworth. West Sussex. if wish to view or have questions regarding this unique Super Snipe contact Michael via eBay email or text/phone on 07970 543130.
